Free Music Notes for Kinks (The Ultimate Collection)Free Music Review: I forgot how much I liked The Kinks! Hit: 5 StarsThis is a greatest hits--or singles, double album. You won't find the little favorites from issued LPs, but this CD is full of gems! The first song on the first disk to the last song on the second disk...it is a ride. I actually forgot how much I liked The Kinks! Each song was a pleasant, surprising, "new" feeling memory.
If you only know the hits...buy this. If you liked their albums...buy this. If you want a nice representation of the era in which they performed...buy this. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
Free Music Review: The Best One CD You'll Ever Need by The KINKS Hit: 5 StarsTruly great music here. Its a great combination of their biggest hits ever. If you only need one Kinks cd this would be it. It has it all. The whole mother load from YOU REALLY GOT ME NOW to LOLA. ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT to APEMAN. This set is huge. Its not the Ultimate Collection for nothing. A great gift for anyone whos into classic rock, great british band that was actually banned from america at one point, so they kept a more british sound unlike the Stones who got more of a american sound to them. I love the Stones, but The Kinks are great too, a nice rugged great british rock and roll style that will live on forever. These tunes are fabulous and very catchy. So STOP YOUR SOBBING and buy this bloody great set now!!!
Bigger fans will go for the albums, but someone seeking the single best collection by The Kinks should get The Ultimate Kinks Collection.
Free Music Review: Incalculable brilliance.... Hit: 5 Stars...how can you assess accurately the artistic merit of the Kinks, particularly Ray Davies' songwriting genius? It is off the charts - you need measuring devices that don't currently exist. I know people think the important three rock artists that will be in the history books are the Beatles, Dylan and Elvis, but I'd put the Kinks up there, actually ahead of the Fab Four. Better, way more socially acute, songwriting, even if the Kinks lacked all that arty farty studio trickery...
So, having established at least my belief in the Kinks place in the pantheon, this is a pretty nifty comp of them. Probably the best you can get for the money. It's got just about all the great tracks from Kronikles, but also touches on the newer stuff as well, like "Better Days", "Do it Again", etc....
Ray Davies reportedly has his first solo album due to come out soon...
But in the meantime, this well-crafted and lovingly curated collection should tide you over. I don't think there's a better one currently out there.
Free Music Review: Kreat Kinks Kompilation Hit: 5 StarsThere is no way that a kompilation can do the Kinks justice, since the musical output of Ray Davies and bandmates is absolutely staggering, and the group has been regarded by many other musicians(Pete Townshend, Paul McCartney, and Brian Wilson, among others) and kritics as fundamentally influential rock and rollers. But this 2-cd gathering is as good as you will ever get to a distillation of what this fabulous group did early on. I recommend without reservation the entire Kinks katalog, but you should start right here if you are new to the group. Excellent sound quality at volume.
Free Music Review: The Kinks ARE AWESOME! Hit: 5 StarsThe Kinks are the most underrated band of all time. They were a great musical group of the British invasion, composed of brothers Ray and Dave Davies, bassist Pete Quaife and drummer Mick Avory. They're easily on par with the Beatles, the Who or the Rolling Stones. Some describe them as the fathers of hard rock. If you dig Nirvana, Collective Soul, Blur, The Ramones, The Clash, or any other alternative rock band - check out the Kinks. Their music is still relevant today. It's practically TIMELESS. This compilation has to be one of my favorite compilations ever made.
From punk-esque songs like "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night" to rock classics like "Set Me Free" and "I'm Not Like Everybody Else", this collection WILL NOT DISAPPOINT! I would've liked to see "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" and "Destroyer" on this collection, but other than that, this collection gets five stars from me!
