Free Music Notes for The Life Aquatic with Steve ZissouFree Music Review: Excellent overall. Hit: 4 Stars
When I first saw this movie, I knew I had to have the soundtrack. Mark Mothersbaugh is a genius, and I loved the little bits with Seu Jorge playing guitar and singing in the movie, so I figured if the soundtrack CD gives me at least those two things, it will be well worth my money. Well, let me tell you, this CD gives that and more. There's only one song missing from this CD, but it's easily downloadable from a site mentioned in a previous review of this same CD. I say that if you thought the music in the movie was good, you'll like this CD.
Free Music Review: Where is the music? Hit: 4 Stars
I think that The Life Aquatic is very well one of the best films I have seen in a very very long time. What made the film so great, was the music. It was fun, quirky, and moving in all the right places. My complaint is this: Half the music in the film, is not in the soundtrack. All the little strange electronic songs that were scattered throughout the movie are not in on here. HOWEVER, the soundtrack by itself is great anyway, and I love it. I just really wish that the little songs that glued the movie together had made it on.
Free Music Review: Better than most soundtrack Hit: 4 Stars
Many soundtracks have a song or two that are worth having on the CD shelf, but this soundtrack has many. Sure, there is some dead space, with some ambient, synthesized music, and Devo can stay in the past, but the exceptional acoustic Bowie performed by Seu Jorge is just magical, and the wonderful Zombie song with ethereal vocals by Colin Blundstone, The Way I feel Inside, is a great choice. For the price, it's a must have for music that can't be easily gotten.
Free Music Review: What's that Devo Tune? Hit: 4 Stars
Ah yes, geeks unite. I've read in interviews that Anderson often hears a song, then constructs a scene which could work with that song. Viola, screenplay. Question: What's that Devo song? Y'know, the minimalist instrumental song that Bill Murray gyrates to in his wetsuit? Mothersbaugh composed a variation on it --- which made the soundtrack --- but alas, the original tune is nowhere to be seen. Any Devo fans out there?
Help out a brother.
Free Music Review: great Hit: 4 Stars
I've always been a fan of Wes Anderson movies, and this was another brilliant one. The soundtrack is great, and every song fit each scene perfectly. Especially the Jorge tracks. I was definitely disappointed that the Sigur Ros track that plays when they finally find the shark, and Zissou starts to cry, wasn't included. It was the most moving song and from the most poignant scene in the movie, so it seemed strange not to put it on the soundtrack CD.
