Free Music Notes for The Living Sea: Soundtrack From The IMAX Film

Free Music Review: Music to dream by...
Hit: 5 Stars

This a great album, cool and inviting as the ocean it invokes. A great meditative piece.

Don't let the track listing put you off, though. Sure, it lists three versions of Why Should I Cry for You?, two versions of Fragile, and mentions several other Sting songs you may already have in your collection. What's different? If you are already a Sting fan, why should you buy it?

The opening Fragile has a great ending acoustic part that isn't on the album version. Mad About You has a great acoustic intro that echoes the album song, then fades into the album version. Both of these songs I now prefer to the album versions...call me a sucker for acoustic. Of the three Why Should I Cry for You? versions, the first one is brief and all instrumental, reminiscent of the original. The second version includes the album version, with an intrumental intro and ending that adds to the mystique of the song. The third version is all instrumental and has a more Caribbean-type feel to it, and is barely recognizeable as inspired by Why Should I Cry for You? Saint Agnes and the Burning Train is, as far as I can tell, almost identical to the original. The ending Fragile is also very close or identical to the original. As far as I know, Sting was not the composer of the other songs--or even of the additional intros/endings--but Sting's songs mesh well with the others on the album. After all, the CD says it "features the music of Sting." I'm not sure how much input, if any, Sting had on the final product.

BOTTOM LINE: This is a mood album. Anyone who loves the sea should love it. You don't have to be a Sting fan to appreciate this album. It's a relaxing voyage to the ocean, with just enough pep to keep you interested. Great album. If you like mood albums, it's a must have.

Free Music Review: Another feather in Sting's cap.

I now feel somewhat deprived at not having seen this IMAX movie as of yet as if the soundtrack is anything to go by, it must be fantastic. I bought this CD purely because of Sting's name on the label and was pleasantly suprised to notice that the music herein differs from anything I have heard from any of his studio albums. Many of the songs seem to be in a similar vein to "St. Agnes and the burning train" from the Soul Cages and it is good to see the original album version included along with Fragile. The entire album is full of relaxing ocean music with a twist of some of Sting's earlier work interspersed for good measure. As others have stated, some existing songs such as "Why Should I Cry For You" have been taken and given acoustic interludes which helps them flow seemlessly with the rest of the album. The whole CD can be played from start to finish easily and it is almost therapeutic in nature.

From what I know, Sting did in fact write all the modified songs on this CD with the exception of the last two and that can only be a good thing. I can't really add much to what has already been said in terms of the quality and nature of of the songs included on this CD except that it really is a must buy. I would heartily endorse it to anyone interested in this style of music, and certainly to any Sting fan.

My only gripe? Hard to spoil this flowing praise but what the hell is that live version of "One World is Enough / Love is the Seventh Wave" from Bring on the Night doing here!? It seems so absolutely of context....

Free Music Review: Can I have a 10-star rating for this one?
Hit: 5 Stars

For one, I am a Sting-head. For two, I am a Latin drummer who digs flamenco music and its percussive beauty. For three, I also happen to be a huge fan of Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah. I donno how many people might have done justice to Sting's music quite as beautifully as Strunz & Farah, and arranged it as beautifully as Steve Wood. Just the opening notes of their version of "Mad About You"..man, that's enough to give me gooseflesh, even after 6 years of listening to this CD. On their own, Strunnz&Farah have some beautiful tracks on this soundtrack, notably "Ocean Waltz" and "Jellyfish Lake". This is a must-have for any Sting fan, along with "Dolphins". Who am I kidding? Any album with a Sting track on it is worthwhile: be it "The Thomas Crown Affair" ('Windmills of your Mind') or "Kate and Leopold" ('Until'). Make love to this album.

Free Music Review: This is my Favorite CD! Buy IT!
Hit: 5 Stars

I love the sea, but I am unfortunately landlocked in Ohio. This CD honestly takes me to the bottom of the ocean everytime I listen to it. It is a great escape from the cold winters. The movie was great, but it's more fun to let your imagination go and let each song take you to a different place. Listen to the CD and you'll know what I mean. This was my first introduction to Sting, and after buying some CD's and seeing him in concert, this is still my favorite! This CD is packed with so much talent. I'm happy to read that others appreciate it as much as I do. It's not very well known around here, and I wondered if anyone else loved it as much as me. If you are an ocean lover, this CD is for you! (it also helps with insomnia). This is my favorite CD of ALL-TIME! If you never buy another Sting CD, buy this one!

I knew even while watching this IMAX film that I had to have the soundtrack. I went straight to the gift shop to buy it, and haven't stopped listening to it for 3 years! Sting's music will soothe you and transport you to somewhere wonderful. Even if you haven't seen the film, the music speaks volumes. This CD makes me nostalgic for my time spent in the islands, and I know it will do the same for you. All of the tracks evoke feelings of the sea and of beautiful, tropical places. As opposed to other reviewers, I didn't mind the live track, as it has a tropical feel to it and tells us that we need to respect and preserve the beauty of the sea. The CD just flows with incredible power. It's one of Sting's best works, and easily one of my all time favorites. Buy this CD!! I know that you'll enjoy it!
