This movie is my favorite western. I love the opening song in the movie, but I wish they had more of it on the cd. I also wish there were more instrumental selections. There were too many vocals. One thing that impressed me about the music, was the authentic sounding instruments that were used. I love soundtracks & some are hard to find. This one was pretty obscure, but Amazon found it & I love it. Ry Cooder's music is great , very like Bluegrass but it fits the movie. I'd watch the movie just to hear the music. Thanks a lot.Free Music Review: Long-time Long Riders fan

I don't know of any better music from a Western than this set of pieces from The Long Riders. With the exception of the rather tedious "My Old Grandfather Said" piece, the music is just excellent. I saw the movie as a teenager, but I remember thinking that I needed to get the soundtrack on tape (cassette) and Ry Cooder's name in the end title credits stuck in my mind.
I kept looking for the tape...even when Crossroads came out, I bought that but continued asking around for the soundtrack to Long Riders. In the meantime, I discovered Paris Texas, Jazz, Geronimo, Music by Ry Cooder and A Meeting by the River...and, of course, Buena Vista Social Club.
I finally found the soundtrack to Long Riders on CD on a business trip to Finland after 15 years...the CD didn't play on my player when I got home, so I had to wait for a another trip to Finland, a month later.
The guy at the store first made a fuss that I was over a month late and without the original receipt...when he realised I only wanted to listen to the music and wasn't claiming a refund, he somehow managed to dig out another copy for me.
This is an important part of my collection on Ry Cooder's incredible work.

I am writing the review for my brother as he requested the DVD. He now watches it as often as he likes. This is one of his favorite movies. My brother is 66 years of age. I also bought him the soundtrack and he loves it. He rates it a 5 also.
