Free Music Notes for The Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring (The Complete Recordings)

Free Music Review: In a Word: Stunning
Hit: 5 Stars

The following is really all that you need to know about this product: OWN IT.

If the first soundtrack knocked your socks off, you haven't heard anything yet. Even though the first soundtrack is stunning, I was still disappointed that it didn't contain every bit of music, especially all of the music through Lothlorien. But this... it has ALL of it and is incredible to listen to. It gave my chills up and down my spine, and still does everytime I listen to it.
One of my favourite parts of the score is "Gilraen's Memorial." The music is so haunting and gorgeous, and the only time I could hear it was in the film, but not anymore. I was beside myself when I learned I could finally listen to this beautiful music whenever my heart desired.
Even if the entire soundtrack is 3 hours long, it is worth listening to every minute of it. It transports you right back into Middle Earth again, which is never a bad thing.

This entire soundtrack is just awesome, in the true sense of the word. The 44 page booklet is also a treat. It explains all the themes from the score, describes the instrumentation and gives you an interesting insight on how this musical masterpiece came to life.

Howard Shore is nothing short of genius, and if you are a fan of these movies and this music YOU MUST BUY THIS. You will not regret this purchase, I gurantee it.

PS: Quite possibly the best part of the whole thing is that the booklet reads The Complete Recordings "Part One." Which can only mean that they will do this for The Two Towers and The Return of the King. I can't wait until the other two come out.

Free Music Review: Breathtaking - Worth the Money to Buy the Complete Recordings!
Hit: 5 Stars

I had purchased the normal Lord of the Rings movie soundtracks before I purchased the Complete Recordings and the Complete Recordings are the way to go! I feel like I'm watching the movie every time I listen to the Complete Recordings. It's seamless and the tracks flows perfectly from one to the next. You get the entire score on these disks--unlike the chopped up normal Lord of the Rings soundtracks. All of the songs the characters sing in the movies are included in the Complete Recordings as well (this is not true for the normal Lord of the Rings soundtracks). Cash in the extra money and buy the Complete Recordings versions.

Regarding the score itself, Howard Shore's songs are brilliantly written! His music motifs for each character, theme, location, etc are beautifully interwoven throughout the entire score. I don't even really know what to say because this score is so gorgeous, dynamic, and inspirational that to understand how beautiful it is you just have to listen to it.

I've listened to MANY scores for movies including (but definitely not limited to) scores composed by Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Klaus Badelt, James Horner, James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman, John Debney, Harry Gregson-Willaims, and Alan Silvestri. Yet this specific score (well, the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy score) is one of the most profound scores I know.

I'm in love with this score to say the least. I've even cried when I've listen to a few songs b/c I can picture the movie as I listen to it and it just moves me so much =) Definitely buy this.

Free Music Review: Adding another rave
Hit: 5 Stars

After seeing the first extended cut film, I skipped the theatrical versions of the next two, and skipped the soundtracks of all three theatrical cuts as well. This puts me way behind many other more, um, thorough (and probably richer) Ringers, but I want to add my voice to the chorus...

It is Howard Shore's master work, and getting every last note of it is worth waiting for. Although it is difficult to imagine, I think I would like the music as much even if there were no movie to be reminded of; unlike many soundtracks, this is standalone great music.

I listened to Howard's contributions to the commentary on the extended cut films, as well as his narration of the bonus "Creating the LotR Symphony," and have to say that, while the man is clearly a gifted musician, a great talker he ain't; the booklet with this product is wonderful and shores up Shore's shortcomings (and I'm *not* shorry for that!) by doing an excellent job of musical analysis.

It is worth the price. The tragedy of the rubber nubbin has been mentioned: it is everyone trying to show how balanced they are, but honestly, a spare case is simple to find and that nit is barely worth picking.

BTW, in case you don't typically page down to earlier reviews, I want to mention one occurring about four pages back concerning the dvd format and play - it's very helpful to those, like me, not familiar (yet!) with getting the best out of music dvds. Look for the title starting "Note on the technical side."

Free Music Review: Finally what all fans have been waiting for ...
Hit: 5 Stars

At last ! Most movie soundtracks either propose a compilation of songs that you only heard a few seconds of in the actual movie or the principal musical themes of the characters and main scenes.
And how many times have fans heard a beautiful piece of music in the film only to buy the soundtrack and discover it's not on the CD.
So thank goodness for Howard Shore !
After reviewing the special edition DVD's of the the Lord of the Rings movies, it was quite obvious that Mr Shore (like us) fell in love with the musical atmosphere of Middle Earth and relinquished leaving when all the movies (theatrical and DVD versions) were finished.
And so, for the greatest pleasure of movie soundtrack lovers (combined with Lord of the Rings fans) the first of three boxes of the complete recordings from the LOTR trilogy is a pure delight.
Yes, many have remarked on the price of the 1st box, but frankly, I personally think it's worth every dollar ! The presentation of the 3 CD's + DVD is beautiful and the booklet is most interesting as a really detailled printed "how to make the music" guidebook.
One can only look forward purchasing the "Two Towers" version and later on the "Return of the King".
Again, the final price tag is rather high, but this type of edition (complete recordings) and it's quality is rather rare, to say the least, in the movie soundtrack world and the music itself is timeless, so it'll give non-stop pleasure for years and years !

Free Music Review: Magnificant!
Hit: 5 Stars

Of course, I loved the Lord of the Rings films, and I am an avid classical music fan, yet I never really buy movie soundtracks...they just usually seem to be lacking. I remembered the music from The Fellowship of the Ring and was surprised to find this recording. I quibbled about spending $55 on this, but hey, that's the cost of the 3-disc classical set, so I thought why not.

This work is utterly beautiful and just amazing - I am in love with it. I have listened to nothing else since I bought this three days ago. It is every bit worth the price and I cannot wait until The Two Towers and The Return of the King are released - let's hope.

A lot has been said about the character vocals...I really don't mind them - they were written into the score afterall, and at those times, the focus is meant to be on the character vocals.

I love the packaging...I think it's put together really well. However, my main quibble is the booklet. Yes, it is very informative, but I feel jipped a bit. Go to: http://www.lordoftherings-soundtrack.com/ and download the free annotated score - NOW THAT IS what should have been included here. It has MUCH more information and has all the choral texts - in the original middle-earth language and translated into English, so one can understand the text that is being sung.

All in all, if you love great classical works, I can't recommend this enough. Beautiful, just beautiful.
