This is a LOTR fan's dream come true! Without the "distraction" of the stunning visuals and terrific acting of the films, you can now focus on the depth and complexity of every note of Howard Shore's glorious music for the first film. The reviewer at soundtracks.com says it all and more when he raves at length about the quality of this set of CDs and DVD. The audio DVD is a huge plus, and the entire set is well worth the asking price. Let's just hope we don't have to wait a year for the Two Towers complete music--this is just too good to wait for. It's the perfect Yule gift for any Rings fan--too bad it's so difficult to find in retail outlets. Order it now!!!

this complete musical score is brilliant. not only is it the score, it includes some of the songs we didnt get in the soundtrack (bummer!).
other goodies:
1. gandalf and bilbo singing their respecive parts of "the road goes ever on"
2. the hobbits singing at the green dragon before thay all go to bree
3. the woodelves singing as they make their path to the grey havens
4. Aragorn singing the lay of luthien
5. Arwen's song
6. Lorien elves singing the lament of gandalf
these are the ones i remember off the top of my head. This is excelent and id suggest to the fan and the ringer that this is a must have.

If you read the reviews of the package they are all deservedly praising of this collection. I could add my voice to the crowd but I will only say this: get this if you love the movies and music already. It is well worth the high cost in my opinion. I strongly suggest you log into www.lordoftherings-soundtrack.com to download the companion Annotated Score. It is a beautiful track by track guide to the CD and free. I am so looking forward to the same packages for The Two Towers and The Return of the King. I purchased this for my 16 year old son for Christmas and he's spent many hours translating the main musical themes of the piece into garage band and listening to the music to identify the themes throughout the score. He has a great interest in music theory and this takes a contemorary piece that has a lot of meaning to him - he's a huge fan of the films - and gives him insight to the construction of many great historical symphonies. Thanks to Howard Shore for his musical genius! (Interestingly enough my son"s last name is Shore - unfortunately we're not related to Howard!)Free Music Review: Full Immersion

In tackling Tolkiens daunting world, Shore and all who were involved surprised and awed us all with how completely he has dipped us into the world of Middle Earth. He has succeeded in doing this as masterfully as Tolkien has with his storytelling and research. I have yet to see as comprehensive a soundtrack as this anywhere, at any time. Where we are used to getting entire operas on cd, now we get Shores visually operatic score. I wish we could get this kind of treatment with other scores as well. I can only hope this sets a precedent.
