Free Music Notes for The Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy Soundtrack (3CD & 18 Trading Cards)

Free Music Review: An amazing set, difficult to find!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am one of the lucky few I suppose. I was looking for the Return of the King soundtrack in a local electronics store and found the set with the DVD for $26. I wanted the cd without the DVD for the lower price, so I reached up to the top shelf and pulled out a stack which had a large tan colored box. Curious, I pulled it out of the stack and it proved to be this trilogy set. The price tag was $34. I thought, "What a find! For less than $10 more I can get all three soundtracks and I don't have any of them!" I bought it. My Aunt wants one as well, and now I cannot find the set anywhere. It doesn't say Limited Edition on the cover, but it obviously is. I came here to Amazon to see if I could get it for her and the price of $50 dropped my jaw since I paid about $15 less.

Still, this is a great set to have. The pictures are wonderful and to have all the beautiful music from the movies in one complete package is worth even the $50. Buying all three separately would still cost more in most stores, but you don't get the photos (which seem to be every alternate cover offered and then some). Trust me, finding this set in a store is extremely difficult as most stores say they were sent only one and the first lucky person to find it snatches it right up. If you're considering buying it, but the price tag is making you hesitate, don't. Especially if you never bought the first two soundtracks. At this point I doubt you'll find it new and cheaper...and since it's limited, if you don't buy it now, you might miss out.

Free Music Review: BIGGER AND GREATER SOUNDTRACKS EVER!
Hit: 5 Stars

This box receives lots of music prizes, including 3 Oscars: one for LOTR, The Fellowship Of The Ring, another one for LOTR, The Return Of The King and an Oscar for Best Song for Into The West performed by Annie Lennox, featured in the late soundtrack movie! It deserves all of the prizes just because Howard Shore put ALL his heart and mind in doing such a magnificent soundtrack trilogy!
I hope - as announced in 2004 - they will release a super box set with 9 CDs with ALL the music recorded for the theatrical releases of The Lord Of The Rings movies - 2 CDs for The Fellowship Of The Ring + 3 CDs for The Two Towers + 3CDs for The Return Of The King + 1 CD with rarities with comments by Howard himself...

Till then let's listen to The Aviator Soundtrack and dream with The King Kong soundtrack that Howard is working on since 2004!

Just to remember how good and great and magnificent this trilogy soundtrack (and movies) are... here, some of the names that sing and play in it:
Howard Shore with The London Symphony Orchestra, Enya (almost an Oscar for May It Be), Elizabeth fraser of The Cocteau Twins, Hillary Summers, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Sheila Chandra, Emiliana Torrini, Ben Del Maestro, Renée Fleming, Sir James Galway, Billy Boyd, Viggo Mortensen, Annie Lennox, and lots of other musicians and choirs from England and New Zealand!

Thank you very much Howard Shore for this memorable, universal and unforgettable music!

Free Music Review: Breathtaking!
Hit: 5 Stars

I just got this set yesterday and I've spent all morning listening to the soundtracks with my headphones - and they're simply brilliant!

The music, mostly composed and conducted by Howard Shore is breathtaking. It would still be magnificent if it stood alone by itself, but as you listen to it, images from the films come back to you and the experience is amplified. These melodies are truly one of the vital elements that have made this cinematic trilogy the masterpiece that it is.

The only problem I have with this set is that the soundtracks are for the theater versions of the films, no the extended editions that have appeared on the DVDs - thus, a great deal of additional music is missing (like the funeral song sung by Eowyn in The Two Towers).

As for the packaging, it's a simple, elegant yellowish tan box that holds all three CDs and 18 picture cards with most of the characters from the films, which are nice to have.

This is an extraordinary piece of music that you shouldn't miss, and part of the best movie experience of our generation.

...as a coda, Howard Shore writes in the notes from The Return of the King CD "and, of course, one holds the dream of a Hobbit's tale"...me too, Howard. Me too.

Free Music Review: Belongs in the Soundtrack Hall of Fame
Hit: 5 Stars

What can I say? If there is one, the soundtracks for all 3 movies should be there. My least favorite, the Fellowship soundtrack, is merely excellent, the Two Towers has an underlying feel of growing tension faced with nobility and spirit. And the Return of the King soundtrack is simply brilliant: Epic, uplifting, spiritual.

What is truly important for a soundtrack score is not just enriching a movie, but helping a movie form an identity. Think about it: Where would Star Wars or The Indiana Jones movies be without the genius of John Williams and his scores? Well, howard shore does an equal job of forming an identity and character for all 3 movies with 3 very different, but all excellent, movie scores.

Everyone will have their favorite, but few if any will say that even one of these movie soundtracks stinks, or is "merely ok." As a collector of soundtracks, this one goes right next to my other favorite soundtrack, Amadeus. And for Howard Shore to have his music unashamedly stand next to that of Mozart is quite a compliment indeed.

Free Music Review: Glad to have it.
Hit: 5 Stars

Loving The Lord of the Rings movies makes me read LOR's related books. Of course, the music by Howard Shore is unforgettable. The spirit of the movies. It is so great that I have seen the movies many times. I pretty much like The Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy Soundtrack, which helps fulfill my dream. It contains just what Amazon.com says. If you do not have any one of the CDs, this set is excellent, for it has the three CDs from The Fellowship of the Ring to The Return of the King. Well, no special DVD, which I want to have. Unfortornately, those trading cards inside are like "small" DM, kind of fragile. I put them aside. I thought they were like those YU-GI-O cards released by KONOMI, but I was wrong. Maybe you will like them since there are many pictures of charaters in the movies. "May it be" is my favorite song, and you can listen to it. I bought it with a CD single, but now I can listen to many because of this set. It rocks.
