Free Music Notes for The Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy Soundtrack (3CD & 18 Trading Cards)Free Music Review: I'm sure it's great...but... Hit: 4 Stars
I'd love to say this CD set is the favorite in my collection. I'd love to comment on the depth and breadth of the artistic musical composition and performance. But I can't...I've been waiting for my order since the 13th of March and it's still not here. Amazon continues sending me these pleasant little e-mails every couple weeks, letting me know that in just 2 more weeks I should expect my CDs to arrive. I'm still waiting, and it's been over 3 months. If you have these CDs, please enjoy them for me. Oh, and you'll probably note that this page still indicates that the product ships in 1-2 days. No change there since the day I placed my order.
Free Music Review: Only movie music... Hit: 3 Stars
i've always deeply stroken by this simple fact : a music written for any movie is a descriptive music, and this is why it is NOT pure music at all...it is something else, it appears as a kind of commentary for the pictures of the movie itself, something often unnecessary and that can be replaced easily...In this score, Howard Shore appears as a great music movies composer, undoubtedly -such as Rozsa or Elfman - but his music is completely prisoner from the pictures, and, without these pictures, the score becomes awfully weak... I'll always remind me the discussion i had with composer Jan Leontsky, going out from a parisian cinema where we had seen "Raging bull" from Scorsese (with this so well-chosen theme from Mascagni's opera Cavalleria Rusticana)... Leontsky said to me : -Scorsese was right to choose a real composer as Mascagni... -What do you mean by "real", Jan ? -I mean a composer who writes music... -You mean, movie music composers are not musicians ? (Jan Leontsky stopped walking and turned at me) -No...they are only painters.
Free Music Review: Greatest Soundtracks ever....in a not so great box set Hit: 3 Stars
Not only are the Lord of the Rings movies the greatest of all time, the music within them is top notch as well. The music's themes are excellent and inspiring, even toppling heavy-weights, such as Indiana Jones and Star Wars. Everything about the actual music is great, but the box set is overpriced. You can buy all three CD's serparatly for much less money or you can buy the first two and then the special edition third CD with extra DVD for around the same price. The included inserts are only for novelty sake; they can be used as actual CD covers, but my feeling is that replacing the inserts is somewhat useless. However, the inserts are of some quality and make excellent tiny posters. If you like the Lord of the Rings, get the soundtracks, but don't be shy to buy the REAL box set with maybe 12 discs with the entire score when it comes out sometime in the near future.
Free Music Review: Changing descriptions? Hit: 3 Stars
I also bought this CD with the impression that it came with a bonus DVD... A few days after I placed the order, the description read that it only contained the 3 soundtracks. It's great if you haven't bought any of the CD's yet, but in my case it was a wasted buy cos I'd already had all three. The price, I guess, in the US would be considered a bargain~ But since I can get this for US$28 where I am, it's not really worth it...
Free Music Review: Overpriced Hit: 3 Stars
This set contains all three wonderful albums, but that's it. If you divide the price by three, you'll see that you'll end up paying MORE than if you were to buy them individually. Ripoff.
