Having enjoyed the first two Complete Lord of the Rings Recordings by Howard Shore, I was delighted to see the third and last finally released.
It is great to sit quietly and relive the movie through the wide range of Shore's musical expressions - the grand sweeps over the landscapes, the more silent and intimate moments intermixed with the subtle use of solo vocals and choirs, the small rush of joy when the various themes creep in and out of the score. And, just before the end, Annie Lennox will move you Into the West with her beautiful, emotional voice.
Well, what can I say. If you were touched by the music, when you watched the movie, I am sure you will enjoy this 4 CD edition, that allow you to listen to the pure orchestral music of Howard Shore without background noises.
Surround Sound lovers may appreciate the accompanying DVD with the score recorded in 24 bit, 5.1 audio.

What can I say? I'm a huge LOTR fan and have been purchasing the complete recordings for the past couple of years. They are beautifully packaged, I recieved them quickly and they are just wonderful to listen to. I now have about 8 hours of music to listen to. I especially like them for the little songs that were sung by some of the characters in the movie. If you're a hard core fan, then this is these are the CD's for you! The exception would be "The Complete Recordings of Lawrence of Arabia"......the recordings that are available only offer snippets of this masterpiece of cinematic music.
Since that won't happen, LOTR Return of the King steals the honors. The whole 3rd disc is stupendous, and is faithful to that which made it to the theaters, not like The Two Towers, where there were some disconnects.
Spectacular.........
