just received this final set of the trilogy. excellent listening, and has my favourite song 'the houses of healing' included. It is a great addition to the other two extended cd's, but I am biased - I love the Lord of the Rings book, films and music and Howard Shore is an inspired composer and conductor.

The perfect item for those who love movie scores and those who love LOTRs. I've been dreaming of this exact set, and I've just bought all 3. The music is gorgeous and in full clarity. The DVD, although annoying due to its double-sidedness, is a great bonus. My only quibble is that it doesn't have a stand-alone track for Annie Lenox's "Into the West" (it's somewhat buried and a bit muted in one of the last tracks). This is amazing! Hours of listening pleasure to finish off the collection. Surprisingly a lot of tracks sound much better than in the movie especially tracks supporting the battle scenes.
Where as The Two Towers incidental music tended to be slightly tiresome, this score keeps you engaged in every track and you notice more and more themes interwoven from the previous scores with each listen.
A must buy for a LOTR fan!

What can I say? I'm a huge LOTR fan and have been purchasing the complete recordings for the past couple of years. They are beautifully packaged, I recieved them quickly and they are just wonderful to listen to. I now have about 8 hours of music to listen to. I especially like them for the little songs that were sung by some of the characters in the movie. Well, I love the Lord of the rings Soundtrack. But with the Complete Recordings you have more than with the usual versions. More of this wonderful music. I ordered the music on amazon.com, and after 2 weeks I've got the CDs without problems.
The Music, composed by Howard Shore, is very emotional in different ways. If you enjoy orchestrated movie soundtrack, you have to listen to the Lord of the rings soundtrack!
