Free Music Notes for The Mask Of Zorro: Music From The Motion PictureFree Music Review: An exhilarating and sweepingly passionate score!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Divinely beautiful: these are words to describe the soundtrack Mask of Zorro. I saw the movie, which was utterly superb, and immediately I purchased the soundtrack which is simply awe inspiring. From the fiery flamenco chord which opens it, to the final arpeggio that closes the it with a twinge of bitter-sweetness, this soundtrack is tremblingly alive. As a musician who knows and loves dramatic music, this score is one that can cut you to the very heart, making you feel, making you know the story. For it brings the old legend of the Fox to life, illuminating, sweetness and sorrow, hate and love, injustice and righteousness in a wonderfully rapturous and overpowering manner which is simply ingenious. The combinations of original Spanish rhythms and dances (such as the Malaguena for instance) with the movie themes are utterly incredible. If you love Spanish music, if you love classical music, if you love that which sends thrilling tingles through your nervous system, and you love the dramatic, then I garantee you will love the soundtrack to the Mask of Zorro. My only complaint would be, speaking as a musician and singer, the lousy performance of the love theme `I Want to Spend my Lifetime Loving You' at the end. It is a beautiful piece of music and deserves a better interpretation than of Marc Anthony and Tina Arena, which, compared to the rest of the soundtrack, sticks out like a sore thumb. However, the other thirteen tracks more than atone for this error, making the Mask of Zorro one of the most moving soundtracks ever written.
Free Music Review: One of Horner's Many Triumphs! Hit: 5 Stars
The Mask of Zorro is a superb score that I highly reccomend.
1. The Plaza of Execution is a very exciting track. It blends some great spanish music, with some great Horner action cues, and even a grand rendition of the Zorro theme.
2. Elana and Esperanza is a heart wrenching track. It begins as Don Diego comes home to his wife and baby daughter. By the end of the track, his wife is dead, and his daughter is stolen from him. A very emotional and intense track.
3. The Ride, is a major let up from track 2, it is fun, exciting, loud, and fast! A great action track by Horner.
4. Elana's Truth, is a sweet, emotional track.
5. The Fencing Lesson, is full of awesome percussion, full force spanish guitars, and fun orchestrations.
6. Tornado in the Barracks is like the fencing lession, only a bit more intense.
7. The Confession, is a bit more toned down than you become used to, and it actually is a welcome break.
8. Zorro's Theme. An awesome, sweeping, emotional track in the tradition of Horner's drama scores.
9. The Mine is a short, dark, almost creepy track.
10. Stealing The Map is a suspensful, fun, action oriented track.
11. Leave No Witnesses, is an entertaining, fun, and exciting track.
12. Diego's Goodbye is another emotional track. Very impressive.
13. I Want To Spend My Lifetime Loving You, James Horner can write Pop ballads. Dude
Free Music Review: Great Swashbuckling Score Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of James Horner's finest scores. It perfectly blends action with romance. Here we are:Track 1: The single best opening to a score I've ever heard. As soon as the guitar clicks in at 2 seconds into the track you know it's gonna be a great cd. After about a minute and a half, the opening ends and the rest of the song is standard action music, but nothing special. Track 2: Romantic for the first half and the last half is suspenseful. Track 3: Very cool action music. Track 4: Don't remember. Track 5: Interesting and fun, sort of romantic. Track 6: Fantastic. Perfect Zorro action music that will leave you smiling. Track 7: Lovely romantic song. Track 8: Great theme, very lush and romantic. Track 9: Don't remember. Track 10: This one will knock you off your feet. The first three minutes and thirty seconds is very suspenseful, building up to the Zorro's fight with Montero and the other badguy (forget his name). The sword fight itself is absolutely perfect, I mean perfect, music and the ensuing chase music as Zorro makes his escape will leave you breathless and exhilarated. My favorite track on the album. Track 11: The first half is suspense building. Then around 6:30 it turns into an all out action cue. This track contains what I think is some of the most complex action music ever composed. I mean EVER composed, not just by Horner. It's great. Track 12: A great romantic ending to a great score. Forget the song.
Free Music Review: Some of Horners best work Hit: 5 Stars
I love this Movie. It's one of my all-time favorite movies and so is the soundtrack. The score is written by Hollywood super star composer James Horner. His Oscar work includes Titanic along with a lot of other great films. He's one of the best in the business and is second only to John Williams. There are a lot of good songs on this soundtrack. It's heavy on the brass and trumpets. There's a great mix of slow and upbeat songs. I love the Ride. It's such a great song. The Trumpets are awesome. I had the oppurtunity to play this song back in school. It's got a great beat to it and has lots of runs in it. Zorro's theme is the best song on the album. It's one of the best scores ever written for a movie. The melody is catchy and is a pretty melody. Once again it sounds so good on the trumpet. The Marc Antony song "Spend My Life Time Loving You" is also pretty good. Him and the girl both display good vocals. I really think the song would have been better just instrumental though. Parts of the insrumental are played throughout the movie, and it's a pretty song. I think the lyrics hurt it. "Diego's Goodbye" is another reason to pick this one up. It's a well done emotional song. It was great in the movie. I love this soundtrack. It is easily one of the best ones done in the last 10 years. The trumpets are great. I can't say enough about them. If your an instrumental fan, you won't be disappointed by picking this one up.
Free Music Review: I recommend this to people who love great music!! Hit: 5 Stars
Ordinarily I hate music scores. There are only two exceptions however and those are the scores to Small Soldiers and Mask of Zorro. Mask of Zorro isn't boring background music like most soundtracks. It is fiery and dramatic. James Horner does a great job on The Mask of Zorro. He was the one who composed music for Titanic. The Mask of Zorro is amazing to listen to even if you don't like instrumental music. I also love the tapping feet of the flamenco dancers. It reminds me of a Spanish version of Riverdance (if you can imagine that). There is great guitar and flute and harp music that is very romantic and sensous. The Fencing Lesson is a wonderful piece of semi-tango music. Speaking of tango music, does anybody know the tango music that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Antonio Banderas danced to during the fiesta scene? The omission of that piece of music is a minor flaw in this great work of art.
