The Matrix-trilogy have changed the way we perceive the world, just like the philosophical, mythological and religious texts that inspired the film-series. In case you still see the films as pure entertainment, I would recommend you to read the anthropologist Carlos Castaneda's novels about his encounters with the Mexican sorcerer Don Juan Journey To Ixtlan, Carl Gustav Jung's autobiography «Memories, Dreams, Reflections» Memories, Dreams, Reflections (Flamingo), and the 4000 years old legend about the Sumerian hero and king Gilgamesh The Epic of Gilgamesh: An English Verison with an Introduction (Penguin Classics). An important part of the movies success is Don Davis hand-tailored music. It fits like hand in glove to the original songs from the metalworkers in Rammstein, Rage Against the Machine, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and Juno Reactor. Davis uses all the tools he has at hand, and brushes out the music in broad strokes - from big symphonic parts and avantgardistic sounds to ghostlike electronica. The deluxe edition of his music from the first (and best) movie in the series contains a lot of music that never has been issued before. It totals to 78 minutes of music, but is only issued in 3000 exemplars. If you should be lucky enough to get hold of one of them, I would also recommend you the album «The Warm Moods» (1961) Warm Moods [Collectables] by the tenor saxophonist Ben Webster. Then you can sit back and relax, and let your ears be embalmed by the music that closes the saga of Neo and The Matrix: Ben Webster's lyrical rendition of the classic Ellington-ballad «I'm Beginning to See the Light».
