Free Music Notes for The Ministry of Sound: Annual 2008

Free Music Review: ...I'm sorry. What?
Hit: 1 Stars

The title is pretty self explanatory, but I'll elaborate.

I was pretty happy with the Annual 2007, it wasn't full of boring commercial tracks and had quite a different track collection. So, given the success of The Annual 2007, and how well received it was, I had thought that MoS had finally understood what they were doing wrong and listened to people. I couldn't have been more wrong.

It took me a while to try and understand what had gone wrong here. I was initially convinced that I was not "prepared" for the CD, as it always takes me time to fully appreciate any CD I buy. But my assumptions were wrong, the track selection was just that bad; boring, cheesy and not appealing.

My main complaint is with the second CD, as that is the main culprit of the 1/5 vote. The others CD's are okay compared to this atrocity. I tried to listen to the second CD and like it, but it was just not possible, my ears would not take it. The tracklist was just shocking. From the cheesy house music of Bob Sinclar, to the highly unappealing track of "Young Folks" and commercial favourites like, "Destination Calabria" and "Don't Mess With My Man", I honestly could not understand who had the nerve to release this on CD and call it an "Annual", supposedly the definitive collection of tracks from the year. I'm convinced that the second CD was entirely compiled by record store bargain bin vinyls and CDs, because I could never see any DJ playing this in a club, unless he/she had a death wish.

I am sorry to have to say this, but, "Well Done MoS, for botching up another compilation CD and inadvertantly gaining more negative reviews and losing more fans."

Hit: 5 Stars

Ministry of Sound did an excellent job on this annual cd. All 3 cds are amazing. If you still don't have it, get it now.

Free Music Review: Annual 2008: Not near as good as 2007-
Hit: 2 Stars

The Ministry of Sound: The Annual. It sells because it has a good formula (usually).

1. Pick the best/most popular club hits of the year.
2. Put them on a CD

But this year they decided to put a couple hits and some boring songs. There were some really big hits this year that never made it to the CD. Where are David Guetta's hits? Where was Jamie Lewis - "So Sexy"? I heard those played in nightclubs all the time. I'd say find another compilation.

Free Music Review: Another good one from MOS
Hit: 4 Stars

It took me some time to appreciate this one, but it fits with the Ministry of Sound label. Another solid effort. I'll agree with other reviews, the disk 3 mashups are definitely the best reason to purchase this.

Free Music Review: Good, not great
Hit: 4 Stars

So, as the negative reviews are telling you, this isn't their best Annual. But it's still got some awesome songs. True, there are some songs I've de-selected in iTunes, so they no longer play, but most of the album I enjoy. If you've bought every Annual, you should own this one too.

Is it worth $25? No. $15-$18, yes.
