Free Music Notes for The Mission: Original Soundtrack From The Motion Picture

Free Music Review: A worthy buy...
Hit: 5 Stars

Of the most captivating soundtracks I've ever heard, truely worthy of the wonderous movie to which it is attactched. The Mission is a movie, as good as it is, that is virtually forgotten, and with it is this wonderous soundtrack.

Let me start off by saying the movie to which this soundtrack is attatched is one of the best I've ever witnessed.

That said, with the masterpiece he has composed, Ennio Morricone has come to rival John Williams with this spellbinding soundtrack. Morricone didn't recieve an Oscar for his work, but in my opinion is quite deserving of one. The blend of chants and music makes the piece flow perfectly, as perfect as the river that was the centerpiece of the film.

The soundtrack ranges from the depressing, to the soothing, to the uplifting. A perfect blend.

My only regret is this product has been virtually forgotten amounst its peers, but to the few who find it, it is of the most rewarding soundtracks available.

Free Music Review: STRAIGHT TO THE HEART
Hit: 5 Stars

I am not a music buff, but I am however a huge movie one. When I watched Roland Joffe's The Mission last year I was completely overwhelmed by the music. The film (solid but not great) is elevated into a ballet to the soul by Morricone's almost spiritual music. In one sequence in the film Jeremy Irons the Jesuit priest plays the music to an intially hostile group of natives, and you can see the change on their faces, the welcome him, because the music has reached their soul, and trust me it will reach yours. I've watched The Mission five times just to hear the music, and now finally that I own soundtrack I can't stop listening to it, and I've had it for over six months. This is by far Morricone's best score to date. His music is sometimes thematically misplaced as it was in Bulworth, but when he hits the mark, as he does here, or in Once Upon A Time In America and to a lesser extent State of Grace, it moves you like no other music can.

Free Music Review: Amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

I think it has to be between this and Last Temptation of Christ for the best soundtrack crown. This album is pretty much faultless in its entireity. 'On Earth' and 'Gabriel's Oboe' are familiar tomost, but they never loose their beauty. The production on the CD is superb, with the oboe sounding crisp and drums sounding suitably atmospheric. It blends classical and world musics absolutly seamlessly and musically is in an entirely different sphere to his work on westerns. I had not seen the film before i bought it, and would recommend you buy that also, as it is a wonderful story which brings you to tears with the helpof this soundtrack. Those who say it is repetitive are missing the point completely - does nobody understand reocurring motifs? The main theme pops up again and reflects the story with it's dramatic variations. One more point - the choir parts are some of the most beautiful music ever recorded.

Free Music Review: SUBLIME SOUNDTRACK
Hit: 5 Stars

This is it. Morricone's best soundtrack, and to me one of the best of all soundtracks. How far have we come from the first Morricone's soundtracks (A fistful of dollars, the Good the Bad the Ugly,etc.). A soothing, relaxing and inspirational music that can provide food for every soul. I can hardly think of an experience in this life that can bring you closer to heaven, than listening to this CD in a relaxed mood. Or, for that matter, that can make oneself reconcile with earth, precisely when stress and the pressures of modern life are about to overcome any meningful effort to attribute a sense to existence..
If you can relate with these needs, buy this CD and just listen to "On Earth as it is in Heaven". The joy and peace that ensue, will thoroughly and completely justify the small investment. It is a pity that we cannot get the movie on CD yet.

Free Music Review: With or Without the Movie, Superb
Hit: 5 Stars

Passion permeates each cut, and each cut will bring you back into the scenes of DeNiro crawling up the slippery hill in penance, or of Irons walking with the cross held high toward attacking soldiers.

You'll close your eyes and see the children wading through a shallow creek picking out floating violins. You'll hear them singing while the leaders approach the mission for the first time.

For fans of soundtracks, you'll find it richly enhanced with tracks subtle in the movie. Though classically influenced, listeners will find that it transcends standard orchestral music and easy to enjoy in the car as much as the home.

I fully recommend "The Mission: Original Soundtrack From The Motion Picture" (and the movie).
