Free Music Review: There's a 1970 Hit Single Hiding in Here

True, this is where the Monkeemobile runs out of gas.
But still, there's a 1970 hit single hiding in here. "Oh My My" ranks up there among the Monkees' best and best-known hits. A real toe-tapping tune, one that Monkees fans wouldn't be embarrassed to play for nonbelievers. Without identifying it as a Monkees track, I played the song for a friend who hates Micky and Company. She was literally shaking her groove thang---until I identified the artists. If they would've paired this with "Lady Jane", I think the record would've made it a lot higher than #98 on the charts.
Nothing on CHANGES is downright lousy---just pedestrian. The Davy tracks wouldn't have sounded out of place at the local jr. high school hop, circa 1970. "Do It in the Name of Love" is lukewarm, imitation Motown, but tolerable nevertheless. At least, there's nothing on this album that's as self-indulgent as the lesser tracks on THE BIRDS, THE BEES & THE MONKEES.
CHANGES is a fitting end for a band which lasted longer than it should have, providing a lot of good times in the process.
