Free Music Review: DE review of "The Monkees - Greatest Hits" Hit: 3 StarsWhen Rhino Records issued this version of The Monkee's greatest hits, they did their diehard fans a disservice because the far superior Arista Records version "That Was Then - This Is Now: The Best Of The Monkees" from 1986, which is no longer in print, included 25 of their greatest hits, which included the new songs "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere" and "Kicks" which were recorded specifically for this compilation by Mickey Dolenz and Peter Tork along with the hit "That Was Then - This Is Now" included on the Rhino release. "Greatest Hits" is a good start, but the Arista version from 1986 is a far superior collection of Monkee music, should you find a used copy somewhere. It does not however include the minor Monkees hit from 1987 from the "Pool It" release.
Free Music Review: Rock n' Roll Hit: 5 StarsThis has to be one of their best C.D's. Everytime you start this C.D. you feel the familiar thrill like when you just watched a Monkees episode. The songs bring back all the feelings ever felt when listening to the Monkees, my favorite band, even now. This group is an inpsiration to all fans of the peace that was given by their fun songs. This is a must have C.D. for all the big fans of this group.
Free Music Review: Sixties Smash Hits Hit: 5 StarsWhat is the difference between Beatles and the Monkees? That the Monkees totally rock! Who cares if a few songs are by the Beatles? Did the Beatles get the credit? No, and they didn't sing these songs either. They just didn't take the chance. Some of the greatest are on this C.D. Micky does wonderfully on 'I'm a Believer', 'Randy Scouse Git,' Goin' Down', and many more. Davy has all his greatest on this. 'Daydream Believer,' 'I Wanna Be Free', and 'It's Nice to Be with You'. This is a must C.D. for any Monkees fans. I may not have been a fan for long, but I'm already buying their stuff....
Free Music Review: Stars of the Sixties Hit: 5 StarsI would have given this four stars, but four or five of my fav. songs are on this c.d. The songs are great, but some aren't really their greatest. Some aren't what I'd call the style I'm used to sinde I got introduced by their television series. All the mostly known songs are on this. Davy Jones has five songs on this c. d. and that is why I like it so much. Don't get me wrong, I like the Monkees, but they could have used some better songs. Monkees Rule! : )
