Free Music Review: Top of the Charts Album for The Moodies

This album charted Number 1, in it's initial release year, which coincided with the return of all the band members, except original keyboardist Mike Pinder, who had departed midway through the bands previous studio/tour album, Octave. Pat Moraz was a nice addition to the group, but the loss of Pinder signaled an end to the original 'sound' that the Moodies became known by.
However, this album is still their finest achievement to date, save for the original Core 7 albums. No self-effacing Moody Blue's fan would be without this album. Of particular interest, there are 4 very strong songs on this album that receive continuous airplay today, (mostly classical rock stations) more than 18 years after they were first penned. (The Voice, Gemini Dream, Talking Out of Turn, Veteran Cosmic Rocker ...) Justin's solo ballads, for which he has become notorious, are present here, as well. They are always welcome additions to any Moody Blue's album, since they harken back to the m! ystical sounds of albums such as To Our Children's Children's Children.
Good work never goes out of style ....enjoy this classic album ...

Japanese only SHM pressing. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players. Universal. 2009.A regular fixture on the pop charts throughout the '70s, the Moody Blues roared into the '80s with this tremendously successful record. In fact, the album sounds only slightly different than its predecessors; the synthesizer textures are heavier (thanks to former Yes keyboardist Patrick Moraz), but the band's flair for catchy, melodic compositions is still very much in evidence. In retrospect, songs like "The Voice," "Talking Out of Turn" and "In My World," while solid, don't exactly measure up to such all-time Moodies classics like "Ride My See-Saw" or "Tuesday Afternoon." Still, this is probably the last truly consistent album the band ever made. --Dan Epstein
