Free Music Review: Denon does a great job again. Hit: 4 Stars
It's loaded with a lot of the "standards" that are quite commonly included in the "introduction to classical" style CD's, but overall it's a great mix, and very well recorded. The sound quality really is very high for a mix CD. A lot of great choices were included. In particular, I personally thought these were great picks.
String Quartet No. 1 in D major, Op. 11 Andante
La fille aux cheveux de lin, prelude for piano, L. 117/8
The Planets, suite for orchestra & female chorus, Op. 32, H. 125 Venus
Serenade for string orchestra in E major, B. 52 (Op. 22) Moderato
Pavane pour une infante défunte, for piano (or orchestra)
Piano Sonata No. 14 in C sharp minor ("Moonlight"), Op. 27/2 Adagio
Yeah, a lot of piano, but I felt those were really the strong points on the CD. Just very well recorded. And, in my opinion, that is a big deal, since you can have wildly different recordings/arrangements of the same classic music, and have one that is excellent, and one that is so poor, you wonder how it made it onto a CD.
This isn't the best of the best, but it's a great set of 30+ pieces for the price.
I really don't like the name of the CD, though. Most Relaxing in the Universe? Really????
