Free Music Notes for The Mummy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: The Mummy has risen.. but where's the whole score?
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this soundtrack about a year ago a while after I bought the video. Loving the movie since the day I saw it, without lying I would have to tell you the same about this cd upon my first hearing it. The heroic post-Indiana Jones like music is the the best I've heard since Williams himself. This issue of the soundtrack runs into a few problems though. The first is completion - after listening and getting used to the CD you get used to the songs being in order where in fact it is missing a lot of music. Good action music, that should have been in the CD. For instance, the huge scene where Imhotep's face in in the huge sandstorm eating the heroe's helicopter...gone....O'Connell almost being killed by the soldiers in Hamunaptura near the beginning...gone. Luckily, the DVD has a hidden score track with these songs but you have to sit for 2 hours watching a language track screen. Shesh! The movie has millions of fans and so does the soundtrack, the sequel is coming out next may so why not release this in a double CD set? Don't get me wrong, this CD is a great buy, much better than the monstrosity that is The Haunting {movie and soundtrack}. Goldsmith did a great job on this film, too bad he's not coming back for the sequel.

Free Music Review: A Must-Have for Fans of Ancient Egypt!
Hit: 5 Stars

The opening scene of the Mummy actually brought tears to my eyes, mainly due to the majesty of Jerry Goldsmith's magnificent score. From the first stirring notes to the end-credits, I was thoroughly absorbed in this wonderfully evocative music. From pieces evoking the grandeur of ancient Egyptian pyramids, to the bowels of a long-forgotten tomb, the score never loses momentum, or the listener's interest. It is a must have for music fans, as well as anyone interested in Ancient Egypt.

The music captures all of the film's themes brilliantly. The action theme is every bit as fun and fitting as an Indiana Jones adventure, and haunting vocalizing goes with Imhotep's theme to perfectly evoke the other-wordly evil that is the Mummy! The romantic love theme is one of the best I've heard.

This CD is and awe-inspiring collection of music that will draw you in and never let you go until the last note is sounded, when you will just hit the play button again! I know I do; every time I want to be transported back to that ancient land, I just pop this CD in, close my eyes, and I'm there.

Free Music Review: The Men, The Mummy, The Movie, The Music
Hit: 5 Stars

For women like me who were swept away by the fantasy and the male cast's fabulousness in the blockbuster hit "The Mummy", the music to the soundtrack provides good background music fora long boring day at a computer.

While the sequel to the Mummy was a disappointing "money grabber", this soundtrack will remind those who love it still why they found it so fun, funny and appealing. Romantic, intense and all around tinged with a hint of terror, the soundtrack brings you back to the rosy golden sands of the Sahara. One wonders why they opted for bad commercialism and sucker bets like "The Scorpion King" when Evy and Rick could have had adventures a la Indiana Jones over at least 3 movies...Oh well, relive this gem and dream of Oded, Arnold, Brendan and wish that YOU too could walk like Ank Sun Amun into a room wearing only gold body paint!

Free Music Review: Another masterpiece from one of cinema's greatest composers
Hit: 5 Stars

Composer Jerry Goldsmith is a legend in the world of film music. Many of his film scores are unforgettable classics. His score to Stephen Sommers' 1999 fantasy adventure "The Mummy" certainly ranks up there with some of Goldsmith's best. This soundtrack is romantic, rich, exciting, and exotic.

The opening two tracks, "Imhotep" and "The Sarcophagus," have an ominous, majestic beauty that successfully evokes the ancient world of the film's title character. "Tauger Attack" is a rousing example of action music, and "Giza Port" has a fun, exotic flavor. The disc's final track, "The Sand Volcano," contains some surprisingly tender passages. Slip "The Mummy" into your CD player, and prepare to experience the work of a master.

Free Music Review: One of the Greatest Soundtrack CD's Ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

..The Mummy is fresh, exciting, and full of adventure. Overall, there isn't that much diversity ion the songs, but then again it is a regional album so it wasn't supposed to have a wide-ranging soundtrack with layers of different sounds. If you saw the movie and loved it, then you'll flip for the score. Jerry Goldsmith is in true orchestral-pomp form with this one, and it shows in every song. "The Sand Volcano" you'll listen to ovr and over for its grandiose choral arrangements, and "Crowd Control" is a moody, seething piece thye fits the scene where the Imhotep-controlled crowd is slowly marching. If you're a Mummy fan, A Jerry Goldsmith fan, or a fan of great orchestral music, then get "The Mummy" soundtrack right away!
