Free Music Notes for The Mummy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: One of the top two scores for 1999
Hit: 5 Stars

The Mummy is one of the top two original motion picture scores for 1999. (It ties with the Phantom Menace.) This is one of Goldsmith's best in recent years. First, the cd itself is longer than a half an hour. Many of Goldsmith's scores are too short to fully enjoy. The pounding drums and exotic sounds make the listener feel as if they actually are in Egypt. The adventure of the movie is also well captured in tracks like "Tauger Attack" and "The Mummy". My favorite piece of music is that entitled, "My Favorite Plague" in which Goldsmith uses slow drumbeats to portray the powerful menace that the Mummy is. Overall, this is one of my favorite soundtracks, and any Goldsmith fan who buys it will not be disappointed!

Free Music Review: This CD will see a lot of wear!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a published fiction writer, and I'm always looking for great soundtracks to inspire me as I write, that evoke a backdrop of drama, adventure, and romance. The Mummy will always be one of my favorites! There's lots of variety--from the rousing adventure of "Tauger Attack" and "Night Boarders", to the dark, eerie promise of "The Crypt" and "Discoveries", to the enthusiasm and competitive fervor of "Caravan" and "Camel Race", every song pumps with energy. See if you can spot Evelyn's, Rick O'Connell's, and Imhotep's themes threaded throughout the tracks...each theme fits its character so well. Thanks, Mr. Goldsmith, for a fabulous soundtrack that feeds my imagination!!

Free Music Review: Pomp of 'The Mummy'
Hit: 5 Stars

Eventhough this soundtrack came out last year and I manage to get it this year and I must say that it is certainly one of Jerry Goldsmith's better efforts. The movie wasn't too bad but what carries the film besides the heavly laded special effects is the music. Mr.Goldsmith has written a score that is both surreal and beautiful with touches of the music of old Egypt. With his opening credits right through the end , his music conjures visions and emotions of heroism and horror without being too eerie and listenable. I find that Mr.Goldsmith really excels in the field of music in the fantasy and horror genre. To date, his best works can be found in The Omen, Poltergeist and Legend. Superb sounds from a truly masterful composer.

Free Music Review: The most substantial score of Goldsmith
Hit: 5 Stars

Undoubtedly the most substantial score of Jerry Goldsmith. I enjoyed every single minute! As another amazon reviewer wrote (for another score of his), he has this superb gift that he adds each time a different touch at his scores without having the disadvantage of Zimmer, Williams and Horner, who write almost identical soundtracks. This also happens here. Golsmith composed the absolut eruptive and brilliant music I have ever heard! I loved the action tracks, the Egyptian-romance theme , even the horror moments of this CD. In simple words, this score is just the ideal for this kind of movie! This CD is surely one of my initial choices every time I want to hear some great orchestral music to make my day! Buy it and you won't regret.

Free Music Review: "In your face" great film music
Hit: 5 Stars

With so much hype surroundung the Phantom Menace score it was with great surprise and pleasure that I found Jerry Goldsmith's score to The Mummy a truly tasty, popcorn-munching good time. Goldsmith revisits his ethnic flavored style from "The Wind and The Lion" and "Masada" to create this gorgeously romantic action adventure score. At 57 minutes it is never a bore... to the contrary the score continually outdoes itself as it progresses. The last 3 cues are hammering and breathless, full of brutual percussion, bellicose brass and a deft blend of all out action and horror creepiness. Get it if you love good old-fashioned film scoring. It's a gem.
