By turns majestic, lush, malevolent, exciting and romantic, The Mummy is one of Jerry Goldsmith's finest efforts. The maestro infuses The Mummy with an exotic "Wind and the Lion" flavor while fully developing ideas explored in The Shadow, The Edge, and Air Force One. The Mummy's action cues are as aggressive as those in Rambo 2, and track #8, "The Crypt," oozes evil. Moreover, there's no filler here; each track matures musically as well as dramatically, providing a cohesive and immensely satisfying listening experience independent of the film. I'm a huge fan of John Williams'...but his last few scores have been rather disappointing. Someone here mentioned that "The Phantom Menace" score was a disappointment. In the last few non-John Williams scores I've bought, I've found that the ability to evoke emotion or imagery seriously lacked. But Jerry Goldsmith renewed my faith in film score writers. The Mummy is so powerful. The beginning track "Imhotep" whisks you away to the desert lands...then blasts at you with the power of it all. Having collected over 90 of Goldsmith's scores over the past 20 years, labels me as something of a fan. His score to the Mummy is terribly exciting and arguably the most full blooded score he has produced since the Wind and the Lion. There is mysterious middle eastern flavors mixed with raucous bravura action themes. The horn cues (especially in track 3) are powerful to the nth degree. There is incredible raw power here. While everyone is being seized by 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menance' mania, and constantly being bombarded by John William's 'Duel of the Fates'; it's really refreshing to listen to something original. Jerry Goldsmith works his magic again to bring life to one of the best movies I've seen this spring. If you haven't seen the movie, what are you waiting for! If you've seen it, then you MUST get the score for the movie. I'm not usually very excited about movie scores, but this one's definitely a keeper!Free Music Review: Exceptional!

Jerry Goldsmith has always been one of my favorite film composers. I believed his soundtrack for "The Edge" was one of his finest. But, now comes "The Mummy". Excellent! It conveys the feeling of Egypt or, at least, what I imagine Egypt would be like. It also harkens back to all the old movies that used Egypt as a backdrop. He manages to recreate for me the film by the beautiful, haunting and exciting themes that abound throughout the CD. Keep up the good work!!
