Free Music Notes for The NeverEnding StoryFree Music Review: A highly melodic wonderful listen Hit: 5 Stars
The Neverending Story is one of those films that has sort of faded away into the depths of the forgotten by this point. This is unfortunatly because it really is quite a good movie, and as with many films, the soundtrack is part of the reason the film is so good. The soundtrack was cowritten by Klaus Doniger (best known for the score to "Das Boot"), and Giorgio Moroder. Luckily there is no quality loss between the two. The CD opens with the title song, 'The Never Ending Story', which is a wonderful way of getting you into the spirit of fantasy that the movie portrays. 'The Ivory Tower' is a wonderful upbeat track, while 'Ruined Landcape' and 'Theme of Sadness' are wonderful sentimental themes. The main showpieces of the soundtrack are 'Happy Flight' and 'Bastain's Happy Flight'. Basically the same, the music is the epitome of a flying theme -- a long sweeping melody that you never want to end on top of rolling backround. This melody is also used in the wonderful 'Atreju's Quest' and 'Atreju Meets Falkor'. Overall, this soundtrack is a great score that is unfortunatly unknown but is indeed a worthy buy. Every track is good, which is quite rare for any CD.
Free Music Review: The American score but equally as good. Hit: 5 Stars
This is the American version of the score for The Neverending Story. The differences are as follows:The first five tracks on this score, including the catchy title song performed by Limahl, were composed and produced by Giorgio Moroder. It should be noted that tracks 2 and 3 - Swamps of Sadness and The Ivory Tower, are not the exact versions used in the film. The Ivory Tower track in particular has a stronger bassline and more discernible beat, although it should be noted that these are the original tracks as produced by Moroder (and not remixed for this album). Tracks 6 -15 are taken from the original 17 track score composed by Klaus Doldinger. That score, which exists on the German version of the film, lacks the title song but also contains cues not heard in the American version of the film. This soundtrack is also available (look under Doldinger or the original title "Die Unendliche Geschichte"). Both versions of the soundtrack are great, and tonally the Moroder tracks do work with Doldinger's original pieces. This version is closer to the the one heard by most viewers, if not necessarily a truer version of the score.
Free Music Review: One of the best soundtracks around! Hit: 5 Stars
Mmmm, how I love this music... this movie was always one of my favorite movies as a kid, and listening to the music always takes me back to my childhood, to those happy times... anytime I'm feeling stressed, or down and out, I just need to put this on and it's all happy!! But the cd transcends the movie in my opinion... yes the nostalgia factor is part of its appeal, but it also is full of real emotion... listen to the Happy Flight melody, and tell me you don't feel happy and upbeat while it's playing... the little Fantascia part is errie, while the Ivory Tower part as a cool little triumphant feel to it... and Theme of Sadness... oh my, it almost makes me cry everytime... kids music my ass, this is adult music, full of complicated emotions! I don't know if I'll ever be confident in my self to put this on during a party or anything, but damn this cd is good... if I have to keep my love of this music secret so as to not be outcast by my friends, then so be it... but this music RULES!!! :)
Free Music Review: Movie Scenes Come Alive Hit: 5 Stars
The Neverending Story, the soundtrack is part of the reasons why the movie became so successful. Title theme Neverending Story and Bastian's Happy Flight are the uplifting themes which will surely make you want to see the movie.(Atreyu's Quest and Atreyu Meets Falcor and Happy Fight are basically the same as Bastian's Happy Flight but with a bit of different touch). Moody scores such as Swamps of Sadness and Gmork depicting the swift and sly movement of wolf-like evil creature vividly conjure up the part of the movie scene. It is no doubt one of the finest 80's soundtracks. The movie is as great as the soundtrack and the novel has slight different theme from the movie. Both are highly recommendable as well. Also recommended for Harry Potter and Lord of the Ring appreciaters.
Free Music Review: Great happy music! Hit: 5 Stars
The Neverending Story was always one of my favorite movies as a kid, and that love has only deepened as an adult. In part, that's thanks to the movie's amazing soundtrack. It combines the best of 80's synthisizer music with a timeless, emotional score. The first track(the movie's title theme)has an infectious beat and lyrics you just can't help singing along to. The emotions of the different tracks are very clear and very powerful, and track number six(Bastian's Flight)is the perfect music to listen to when you're feeling blah. I found myself grinning and laughing for no real reason after listening to it. The music made me feel *that* good. I'd recommend this to anyone who loved the movie or still loves the 80's techno/pop sound. It's completely worth it!
