Free Music Notes for Plan, The
Free Music Review: What a Concept!

This is one of the best...no, THE best concept album of all time. What a great idea to do a concept album about 3 of the most important questions in life; ones that we all consider at some time during our sojourn on Earth: Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going after this?
The Plan's concept is head and shoulders above other much more famous album concepts such as the fictional brass band with many explicit drug references concept (Sgt. Pepper's...), the handicapped boy who excels at pinball and hates his mother who rolls around in chocolate pudding concept (Tommy), the man who builds an emotional wall to protect himself from oppressive society and teachers who won't let him eat pudding concept (The Wall) (Again with the pudding?), etc.
In addition to the great concept, The Plan rocks! Traffic In My Mind, Last Days, and Goin' Home are some of the best rock songs of the 70s. And the "Don't Take It Too Easy" vignettes that help tie everything together are coolly-edgy. The music is superb and the Osmonds deserve a great deal of credit for playing all the instruments and writing all the songs.
Even if one is not religious, it is possible to enjoy this album tremendously. After all, are the religious themes contained in these songs really any more offensive than the overt themes of drug use, paranoia, promiscuity, suicide, paganism, racism, class warfare, criminality, body mutilation, and misogyny that are so prevalent in the pop music world?
