Free Music Notes for The Princess and the Frog AlbumFree Music Review: OK addition to the Disney Soundtrack Canon - minus one large exception... Hit: 3 Stars
Overall, I enjoyed the Princess and the Frog soundtrack after recently purchasing it, despite one very noticeable drawback due to its placement as the first track. While understanding Disney's need to have a radio airplay "pop" promo track included on their soundtracks, the one included on this album by "Ne-Yo" just doesn't fit the theme or place of Disney's newest animated entry, and quite disappointingly so as I personally believe it's a very large missed opportunity for commercially capturing the feel and promotion of the classic sounds that epitomize New Orleans. Perhaps if the chosen commercial track were placed at the very end of the album, it would not seem as forced or be as off-putting in setting the tone for the remainder of the soundtrack as it currently is. Nevertheless, the album (despite not having any truly timeless or memorable home-runs as in past Disney Soundtrack Canon) does include some wonderfully arranged tracks performed by Anika Noni Rose, Dr. John, Keith David, Leon-Wooley, Bruno Campos, Jim Cummings, Jenifer Lewis, Terence Blanchard, Terrance Simien, Pinnacle Gospel Choir, and contemporary Disney Soundtrack helmsman Randy Newman; all of which more naturally allow your imagination to escape to the beautiful setting of New Orleans and be fittingly immersed in the re-imagined telling of The Frog Princess.
