Free Music Review: Prodigy is back - better than ever
Hit: 5 Stars

The Prodigy is the world famous electronic music band with their own very particular sound. They are on the top of the game since the early nineties. They are not really quick in producing albums, "Invaders Must Die" is only their fifth studio album and it has been five year since their previous one called "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned". Their previous album maybe was not that well received and certainly not as successful as their third album "Fat of the Land" which topped the charts in many country. The style on Always Outnumbered was definitely different from what they made before, and even though I liked that album pretty much I also recognized it did not have that best possible sound that I learned to appreciate in the Prodigy's previous albums.

However, Invaders Must Die is a different piece of cake. People that were disappointed by the previous installment should definitely give this one a try and I think they will learn that the Prodigy had produced an album with terrific music full of energy that might be their best album yet. Yes, you read that right, THEIR BEST ALBUM YET! The album contains a set of very powerful and energetic songs that do have the typical Prodigy sound, yet there is quite some diversity in the type of songs. The only real criticism I have for this album is that it is so short (45 min)! Anyway, I cannot stress enough how good this album is, I personally can't just stop listening. Other acts like the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Pendulum of course hold up quite well in their own right (I especially liked Pendulum's In Silico in that regard), however I think that the only group that really deserves the crown for being kings of Electronic Music is the Prodigy, especially with this album.

To go over the tracks: "Invaders Must Die", the opening track that has been offered as a free download on the Prodigy sound is really a great opener. It is a bit less complex that some typical other Prodigy Songs, but it is powerful and contains the right energy. "Omen", their first (real) single, contains some lyric oneliners from Keith, and will probably be a real a club hit. "Thunder" is a bit more laid back track, that has its share of complex typical Prodigy sound. Colours is one of my favorites, with some "atari" or "commodore" tunes. Maybe that doesn't sound attractive, but it really really works and sounds really great. "Take me to the Hospital" for me sounds a lot like the Prodigy sound for the nineties. It has a kind of "out of space" sound, but with a great beat. "Warrior Dance" also has a real nineties retro sound. But the Prodigy-sauce updates this nineties sounds and gives it the energy that makes it worth while. "Run With the Wolves" is my favorite song. It has some drums from famous Dave Grohl. But the best part is its melody that packs a lot of power with its great rave sound. "Omen Reprise" is a bit of strange track on the album as a sort of Remix of the earlier song on the same album. It still sounds good, but in my opion is the weakest track on the album. "The World on Fire" is a party track that is already used in their live sets for quite some time. I think this is probably the most energetic track on the album (which is quite a feat). "Piranha" has a nineties-house-sound over it, but mixed with drum and base and this typical complex Prodigy tune also gives this track the power that it needs. "Stand Up" is the most laid back track on the album, which has a Reggae sound over it. It is a good closer of the album, which gives you a happy feeling and even though it differs a bit from the rest of the tracks it doesn't feel out of place at all.

To summarize: "Invaders Must Die" is a great, great album that should be tried by everyone that somehow likes electronic music. I really do hope that the Prodigy will step up the pace of making new studio albums as the prospect of having to wait again for five years for such a great album is a bit hard to swallow for me.
