Free Music Notes for The Producers (2005 Movie Soundtrack)

Free Music Review: Excellent soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

When I watched this film I loved it so much I watched it 3 times in a week and had to purchase the soundtrack. It is rare that when a Broadway show is made into a movie the soundtrack is as good as for the broadway show. Here it is. In the film the songs and production numbers shine brightly with dazzling sparkle and spirit lifting passion. That energy and pleasure comes across 100% with this soundtrack of the film.

Of course the biggest hits here are having the gifted Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick reprising their Broadway roles. The performances on this soundtrack are amazing. After seeing the movie I couldn't get the excellent music out of my head. And playing this cd I get to relive it over and over.

The best number is Matthew Broderick's tour de force singing and dancing in the huge production number I WANNA BE A PRODUCER and is just as glorious on cd. There is not a miss here but I must note some other personal favorites. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick have perfect chemistry and it shines in WE CAN DO IT and TIL HIM. Matthew and Uma Thurman have a great time on the romantic THAT FACE. KEEP IT GAY, SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER and BETRAYED are all also amazing. All the songs are done with the greatest care. Broadway is alive and well in the transition to this film and this soundtrack is a joyful, feel good, highly entertaining experience.

Free Music Review: RETURN OF THE KING (of broadway)
Hit: 5 Stars

With slightly altered musical arrangements the movie soundtrack of 'The Producers' is as funny as the broadway show and looks to conquer the silver screen as well. Most of the broadway cast return to reprise their roles with the addition of Uma Thurman as Ulla and Will Ferrell as the pigeon raising nazi playwright. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick even sing their songs better than before and gratefully Gary Beach as Roger DeBris and Roger Bart as Carmen Ghia are back. Some of the songs are trimmed but those sections were more theatrical. There are a few curiosities on the CD. There is a number called 'You'll Find Your Happiness in Rio' Timed at 1 minute 11 seconds it is referred to as the full version? Another new song 'There's Nothing Like a Show on Broadway' comes after 'Leo and Max' and how it fits I can only guess they must have extended the finish of the movie but it is a funny number for Lane and Broderick. And even stranger a slowed down version of 'Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop' sung by Will Ferell follows that. hopefully 'The King of Broadway' which is included as a bonus track will be added as a deleted scene on the subsequent DVD-It's a shame it is not in the movie but what is there is still shamelessly low-brow, irreverant, and funny as hell. Anyone who owns the broadway cast album of 'The Producers' should add this to their collection as it isn't a carbon copy.

Free Music Review: Fun, Fun, Fun
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw The Producers on the stage and this is one of the few times I can say I liked the film better. Maybe it's because I missed out on the brilliant pairing of inimitable Nathan Lane and dry wit of Matthew Broderick live? I caught the show after their successful run and was pleased, but felt the show was over-hyped. Maybe it's because I grew up hearing the borscht belt humor and I felt as if I were reliving a show in the Catskills from the 60's. Remember the variety shows in Dirty Dancing? With the new version of the 1968 film and the additions of the fantabulous Uma Thurman and the surprise of Will Ferrell's wonderful talents, I am more than pleased to say this CD is a winner. Is there anything Mel Brooks can't do successfully? A comedy writer and performer are two things, but when you add composer and lyricist to his résumé, and a 23-track soundtrack that's as funny and uplifting as the film itself, then you've got another winner. The bonus track and new song "The King of Broadway" easily caps off the soundtrack and makes this movie-turned-play-turned-movie one of the best musicals of the day. Maybe it's because I found myself humming "Springtime For Hitler" long after the CD had ended that I realized I couldn't get these songs out of my head. Unable to get a song out of your head is not always a good thing, but trust me on this one, this time it is.

Free Music Review: MEIN FUHRER!!! It's back!!!! Ja?
Hit: 5 Stars

Mel Brooks has definitely outdone himself in this, the 3rd round of The Producers! The Producers soundtrack from 1968 set the stage (no pun intended) for movie-goers with the songs 'Habe Sie Gehurt Das Deutsche Band?', 'Prisoners Of Love', and of course 'Springtime For Hitler.' Then in 2001, The Producers became the Tony-winning Broadway masterpiece it is today, still raking in thousands upon thousands of theater-goers. This year, the stage version becomes the all-new remake of the 1968 classic!

This soundtrack will be very familiar for owners of the 2001 Broadway soundtrack. The bulk of the songs are from the Broadway show and include new cast members Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell taking over the roles of Ulla and Franz Leibkind respectively.

A few new songs made just for this film are included on the soundtrack.

You'll Find Your Happiness in Rio
There's Nothing Like a Show On Broadway
and The Hop-Clop Goes On

Whether you're a fan of the 1968 film, the 2001 Broadway show, or just a fan of Mel Brooks, this soundtrack is sure to be the biggest hit in your collection!

"We can't miss!"-Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom.

Free Music Review: Better than Broadway -- Here's why:
Hit: 5 Stars

To me, it was obvious from the first listening... Having heard both the movie soundtrack and the original Broadway cast recording, when the same songs are performed by the same actors, the movie versions are livelier and funnier! Why, I wondered?

Then it struck me -- the original cast recording session typically takes place at the BEGINNING of the show's run on Broadway. Therefore, that CD captures the actors' EARLIEST takes on these songs.

The film soundtrack, on the other hand, has an enormous benefit: it comes AFTER the cast members have played these parts and honed their connections with the songs over hundreds of performances. The comic timing and inflections that naturally evolve over time are present only on the movie soundtrack, and we reap the benefits!

Yes, the movie soundtrack is missing some numbers featured on the cast recording, and vice versa, and Uma Thurman's voice is (as we might expect) not as strong as Cady Huffman's. If you are a HUGE fan of this show, by all means buy BOTH the movie soundtrack and the original Broadway cast recording -- but if you only want one, the movie soundtrack is what I recommend.
