Free Music Notes for The Red Violin: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: This is Amazing!
Hit: 5 Stars

I didn't know anything about this movie until last week when my friend invited me for the show. All I can say is that, the show was simply great. Prior to this, i show no interest in classical music or in violin. Luckily for me, I am not too late to appreciate these type of music.

You can say that The Red Violin really open an eye for my interest in these type of music with orchestra from now on. From the place I come from, there are limited offer in learning violin or are there any concert in orhestra. I only heard of Vanessa Mae(the violin player) but now I have an additional violinist to add, Joshua Bell and composer - John Corigliano,

Because of the evocative story line and wonderful music, I was determined to get the CD. Up until now, there is no dissappoinment for me in buying this CD. Well, for those of you who have watched the movie, you should purchase it. Musically, it is not bad as the soundtrack offers 20 tracks that are all equally wonderful to listen.

Got a few dollar to spare this month? Spent it on this, it doesn't matter even if you do not like the show.

Free Music Review: It'll leave you breathless!
Hit: 5 Stars

John Corigliano like Leonard Bernstein or Aaron Copland-known more for his symphonies than any film music-has created one of the best scores ever. Many people are not familiar with "The Red Violin" and it's such a shame! This soundtrack contains some of the most beautiful and heart-rending music you could ever imagine. It's so powerful that you could relive the entire tale told in the movie just by listening to the music alone. Joshua Bell's performance as the violin soloist is brilliant! I gave this sountrack five stars because six wasn't an option. Anna's theme, the one that circulates throughout the entire movie...whether it is sung, hummed, bowed...it can be the most mysterious, the most beautiful, and the most disturbing melody-sending shivers down your spine. That's one of the reasons the score is so great, because of the adaptability Corigliano gives even this one theme. It's funny how one change in timbre, execution-style of playing, etc. can change how the melody affects you. Buy this soundtrack.

Free Music Review: One Of The Finest Film Scores In Recent Memory
Hit: 5 Stars

Composer John Corigliano's vibrant score for the film "The Red Violin" is among the finest I've heard in recent memory, easily eclipsing any composed by the likes of Goldsmith or Williams (However, with the notable exception of Williams' haunting, brilliant score for "Schindler's List".). Corigliano's music is steeped in the Romantic tradition of great European composers such as Brahms and Dvorak, with echoes of Mahler's music, yet remains distinctively unique. Acclaimed Finnish conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen leads the Philharmonia Orchestra in brilliant, warm performances of the entire score and of the thematically related Chaconne for Violin and Orchestra. Joshua Bell's performances of the solo violin parts are exemplary, filled with much brilliant technique and passion for Corigliano's music. I wouldn't be surprised if Corigliano's score becomes a staple of classical concert halls across the globe. The sound quality is exemplary, using the latest in Sony's digital image-bit technology.

Free Music Review: The Red Violin
Hit: 5 Stars

A strangely hypnotic soundtrack that travels around the world musically with the movie it portrays. From the beginnings of Red Violin theme in Italy, to its ending in Montreal, the music takes us to each place it travels to. In Italy it is haunting as the Red Violin is created. In Austria the music is graceful (with a unique, lively gypsy tune), in Oxford it is passionate, in China wistful (included in the China section is a piece that has a Chinese song sung by children). At last, in Montreal, where the Red Violin ends its journey through time, the music returns to its roots in Italy, becoming both sad and haunting. The entire soundtrack centers around a single theme; expanding and elaborating it as the Red Violin journeys from one place to another. This is a soundtrack that evokes feelings of a mysterious love, a deep passion, and a haunting power. To truly understand the almost magical grip it has, one must listen to it.

Free Music Review: Spell-binding, Breathtaking...
Hit: 5 Stars

I must confess when I saw the movie in the theatre two years ago, I did not pay attention to its score at all. Or rather, I was completely swallowed by it that I couldn't really sense its existance... The movie was so powerful that there were several times I thought I couldn't take it any longer that I rised from my seat and prepared to leave... I end up standing at the entrance to finish the film. It was only two months ago when I suddenly 'discover' Josh's playing that I come back for this album. Having known the plot I can complete relate myself to its ghostly beautiful score. Even though I had heard many of Josh's other albums, I was still surprised by this one. I think it's very different from his other works (those classical, more traditional ones). This one is extremely haunting, sentimental, and about all, filled with dangerous passion--something I don't usually heard from his music...
