Free Music Notes for The Royal Tenenbaums (Collector's Edition)

Free Music Review: makes the movie
Hit: 5 Stars

The Royal Tenenbaums wouldn't be such a fantastic movie if it weren't for the seamlessly placed songs in the soundtrack, which seem to come at exactly the right moment in the film and perfectly complement the scenes. This soundtrack includes some fantastic compositions by Mark Mothersbaugh and other various artists, all of which seem to have the airy, quirky mood of the movie. It isn't really an album you can listen to in the car or in a group and is more appropriate for lounging around or reading by yourself. Perfect soundtrack to a lazy afternoon in the life of a homebody (a label I possess and certainly don't mind, mainly because it's true). If you liked the movie than you will definetly enjoy the soundtrack.

Free Music Review: Another Mothersbaugh Hit
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow. He did it again. Mark Mothersbaugh has chosen instant classics, just add Wes Anderson. I own their other 2 collaberations (sic), Rushmore Soundtrack and Bottle Rockets soundtrack. This is so worth the money. Stephanie Says,
by Velvet Underground, a Ramones track , need I say more?
Okay, well how about Mothersbaugh original songs, always tinkling, special but always individual (not previous re-grinds i.e. Elfman). And the Vince Guaraldi Trio, come on....this song makes you tear up. And Nico, what a new find. I had never heard this performer before. I always get turned onto new (to me) artists listening to these soundtrack. Buy this. Buy this, And then go back and buy Rushmore and Bottle Rockets.

Free Music Review: Eclectic, brilliant soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

Every track on this album is a delight. If you have seen the film, you will relive the experience; if not, it is a pleasure anyway. The soundtrack includes titles by a diverse range of artists, such as Nico and Bob Dylan, as well as classical works by Ravel and Enescu, and even a snatch of Vince Guaraldi's music for "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Mark Mothersbaugh's original music has a gentle beauty of its own, managing to capture the film's delicate balance of quirkiness and warmth.

This CD misses only Van Morrison's "Everyone", but I believe it does not even exist in every print of the film itself, and in any case, there is enough to savour here despite this unfortunate omission.

Free Music Review: A gem of the past, present and the future
Hit: 5 Stars

A great CD, tape or record is one that generates many memories with its use. I can say that I've worn this CD out through many afternoons with friends, car rides, long walks, and evenings at home by myself. After listening to this CD my entire music spectrum was changed. I was put under the spell of Elliot Smith, Nick Drake and Nico and later I became emersed in Belle and Sebastian, the Shins and Death Cab for Cutie. I would highly recommend The Royal Tennenbaums soundtrack for when one has a fervor for a new music taste or simply an hour and a half of serendipity.

Free Music Review: Great Film, Great Soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

The first few times I started listening to this album I first thought of the movie and I would try to remember which song went with which scene. But as I listened to the CD in my Walkman over and over and over again, I began to really experience each song for itself, and I began to forget about its place in the film. Each song is so beautiful and has its own lovely personality, that you begin to fall in love with each song and the album as whole. Now I feel as though I can appreciate the film a lot more.
