Free Music Notes for Live in JapanFree Music Review: " THE RUNAWAYS LIVE IN JAPAN "*REVIEW #1.* THEIR MASTERPIECE ALBUM. "THE RUNAWAYS LIVE IN JAPAN". This is with out a doubt, one of the best "Live Recordings" that i have ever heard. Back in the 70's, i came across the Runaways Music mainly by luck. I had just graduated from High School, and since i was going to College, i wanted to "Focus" more on Female Singers And Groups for some reason. I think that i had got sort of a "Strong Craving" to hear more Female Singers on the Radio or something at the time. I listened to Linda Ronstadt; Heart; Pat Benatar; Bonnie Raitt; Carly Simon; Melissa Manchester; Bette Midler; you know, like a lot of different Female Artists and Groups- and even several Soul Groups; Country Groups;- and Rock Groups- And Artists with Female Singers in them, just to name a few. Then i came across Joan Jett's Music. (I got into Lita Ford's Music years later after The Runaways "Broke Up"). Joan Jett's Debut Album "Bad Reputation", i thought was a pretty good to a great Album from her. She not only played Electric Guitar- and Lead Guitar too- and wrote some of her own Music, but she also sounded like a "Hard-Rocker". The Girl just like to "Rock-Out" when she played and sang. Plus, i think that she was just as good- if not better- than some of the Male Guitar Players who were also out there at the same time that she was. Then, i heard that she was in a all Female Girl Group called The Runaways. So, i decided to go and check some of their Music out. I brought several of their Records, including the "Live In Japan Album". I was very lucky to get that Record by The Runaways. It was somewhat expensive though. I think that the price was somewhere between $30-$50 Dollars at the time when i paid for that Record. I brought it because, i had seen it advertised in a Rock Magazine, or something like that, and i knew that i just had to have that Record. So, i went to several Record Stores one day, and i just kept comming across the same Records by The Runaways each time. Then, i finally found "The Runaways Live In Japan Record" at a Used Record Store, all the way across Town. It figures that i would find it there instead of in the City where i lived at. I was just about broke after paying for the Record- which by the way was not a "Used Record", it was "Brand New". At least that what the Saleperson told Me. So that's why it costed me about $30 to $50 Dollars as i said earlier. So, i took my Records Home, and then i just listened to them "back to back" later on that Evening, and found out that i liked them. But, The Runaways Music sounded a bit, lets just say to be on the "safe side" here, "A Little Rough Around The Edges", sort of to speak; you know, kind of, (now, what is that word that i am looking for here People?), oh yeah, "Tuneless". The "Sound" for their "Music", was not "Musical or Melodious". It was "Missing Something". It didn't quite sound like it was fully "Developed Or Molded Into Shape", as to where the Girls could- and should- sound much better then they actually did. In other words, the Girls "Sound" also "Sounded Forced" as well coming from them when they "Played" and sometimes even when they where "Singing" for that matter. Then i did some "Research" on the Girls and their Manager Kim Fowley; since he was their Manager and Produced the Runaways Records, and would have a "Hand In" on how the Girls "Looked And Sounded". It seems that The Runaways Manager and his Business Partners, often took "advantage" of the "Girls in the Group", at one time or another. And, they also took "advantage" of some of the "Other Girls" who came into "The Runaways Group", even after "Several Original Members" had left because of that. He was not a very good Manager at all. Because, I know, and i have seen for a fact, of how he "Marketed" the Girls as "Teenage Sex Jailbait"- and even went as far as to not only put the "Girls Names" on their "First Record" (Ok, thats fine).- but, he also put the "Ages of each one of the Girls" on the Record as well. (Thats not fine). My Parents didn't think that was "too cool" either of what he did when i showed them this Record with that "information" on it. Yeah, i still have that Record- as do some of you. But, when The Runaways made "Live In Japan", the Record took Me by "Surprise". I was thinking to Myself: "This is the same Group of Girls? No way, it could'nt be. This cannot be the same group of Women that i just heard on those other Records that i brought and played. This is a different group of Females right?" Not only do i still have the "Original Record" (I better as much as i paid for it). But, now i have a "Extra Copy" of this Record, which i paid a lot less for. Under $10 Dollars to be exact. A huge difference. And neither Record is "Scratched". Yay! And the "Cassette Version" of this Album, I have played it a number of times, and it's still "Holding Up Great", even to this day. But, i finally got this on Compact Disc, and it sounds "Wonderful". "Excellent Sound Quality" from this Compact Disc here People. Finally, the Girls, oops, i should say Ladies now, made the Record we all- as well as the "People in Japan"- wanted to hear- and knew that they could make all along. Sure, they were still known for their "Teenage Sex Jailbait Image", but beyond that, ok, put that aside, these Ladies sounded great and they "Wrote And Played" their own "Music And Instruments", and it sounds like they did it to "Perfection" on this Record by the way that it sounds. Gone is the "Tuneless Sound" from their Music that kept "Holding Them Back" from making the Record that they wanted to make. And for once, their Music dosen't sound at all "Forced"- and it is not "Missing Something"- "Nothing"- or "Anything" from it- which made it "Rough Around The Edges" to begin with in the first place. Cherie Currie; Joan Jett; Sandy West; Lita Ford; and Jackie Fox. These Ladies "Came Together As A Whole On This Record". Each and every one of them. Not only did the Runaways Music get totally "Developed, Shaped and Molded" in the process, but it also got "Sculptured" as well into "A Fine And Rare Art Music Form Of Beauty". This People, right here, is "The Runaways At Their Very Best". They are "At The Top Of Their Game" on this Album. And not on any of their other Records do they ever feel "In Complete, And In Total Control" of their "Music" or their "Playing" like on this Disc. Plus, they make you feel like you are right there at the "Concert" with them when they are "Performing". With this Record, The Runaways put all of their "Cards On The Table", and came up with "A Real Big Winning Hand" on this Disc. They "Pulled Out All The Stops" on this Album. They didn't "Hold Back" this time around. And, in doing so, they finally got a chance to "Cut Loose" and really "Rock-Out" for a change here. And, in doing so, they were totally "Emancipated". And, if you don't own- or have this- or any of their other Music, do Yourself, Me, plus Everybody who have brought this Disc, and has either "Liked It"- or "Loved It"- but, not "Disliked It"- or "Hated It"- and The Runaways a favor, go out and buy some of " THE QUEENS OF NOISE: THE RUNAWAYS " Music. But, make sure that you get "Live In Japan" first before it is "No Longer Available And Totally Out Of Print".(And of course, get the other Records by them as well too). I promise, and guarantee you, that you won't be the least bit "Sorry Or Dissapointed" that you brought this Compact Disc of "The Runaways Live In Japan". This is truly a "Remarkable And Great Concert" by The Runaways that you definitively should have and should own in your "Music Collection" at all costs. "Highly Recommended". THE LETTER GRADE FOR THE COMPACT DISC OF "THE RUNAWAYS LIVE IN JAPAN" IS: - GRADE: - ( " A+ " )
