bullet with butterfly wings - this is probably my least favorite, but it's still good. mostly covers, the new-wave-ish ones aren't that great. ironically, "said sadly..." and "a night like this", the two james iha songs are the best on the single. overall, this one is the biggest mishmosh in the set. not necessarily a bad thing, but i think this one goes a little off the deep end.

1979 - i really like this one a lot. all the songs are practically mezmorizing. i get "ugly" and "cherry" stuck in my head for days on end. james has two songs here also. not his best, but they really help pull this single together. "set the ray to jerry" sounds like a throwback to the siamese dream era. i don't understand what possessed them to discard it in the first place.

zero - this is the heaviest disc in the set. "mouths of babes" might be my favorite song out of all five discs. i can't decide, they're all so good. "pennies" is way to soft to be here and seems vastly out of place, but is still excellent. "god", "tribute to johnny", and "marquis in spades" flesh out the disc's pounding theme. surprisingly, i don't find "pistachio medely" to be as pointless as many other reviewers do. i think it's interesting. let's just leave it at that. except for the last 5 minutes or so, which really get on your nerves with that same chord over and over.

tonight, tonight - this is possibly my favorite. aside from the title track it's all accustic with a drum machine here and there. "medilla of the grey skies" is amazing. i can't even describe it. actually, this whole disc is amazing. i really like the accustic version of tonight, tonight. it does more justice to the song than the overproduced version.

thirty three - this one is definitly the weirdest of the five. i guess everyone wouldn't like this disc, but then again, if you're crazy enough to be looking into a pumpkins box set you just might. it's basically a collection of art damaged alt rock songs. none really stand out that much to me except maybe "last song" and "the aeroplane flies high". also, "my blue heaven" is a cover with just billy and piano, but it's a great way to end the set.

overall i would only recommend this to fans. it's not for anyone looking to buy their first pumpkin record. but it is truly something beautiful. i can't give it enough praise. unfortunatly, commercially it's been completely overshadowed by mellon collie, which pales miserably compared to TAFH box set, and that's saying a lot because that album is a masterpiece in it's own right. also, for people who were upset with the path the pumpkins took after siamese dream, this set is more reminiscent of their early days than mellon collie.
