Free Music Notes for Strangeways Here We ComeFree Music Review: My personal favorite Hit: 5 Stars
I have to agree with the other reviewer that said this album is very much underrated. Despite the turmoil going on behind the scenes The Smiths were somehow able to make their most experimental, breathtaking album of all. It seems to me that their "conventional" songwriting climaxed with the fantastic Queen Is Dead. After that, most any other band would have been hard pressed to find an encore within them that was even close. Instead they went off in an entirely new direction and made perhaps their most haunting, innovative work. Even though Morrissey's solo endeavor, Viva Hate, was great in its own right, to me this album most vividly recalls those eerie, fog-shrouded years gone by. But don't kid yourself, all the Smiths albums are essential and worth their purchase price ten times over. I just find myself going back to this one more than most.
Free Music Review: This is The Smith's best and most underrated Hit: 5 Stars
I can't believe the negative comments this album gets and how everyone praises "The Queen Is Dead" over this album. "The Queen Is Dead" was same Smiths formula. Now I love all of The Smiths albums(Their one of my favorite bands ever) But lets be frank they do same formula which isn't bad because its good. However this album is the most creative and amazing albums of The Smiths. It goes from beatuy to madness. It also features Morrissey's best lyrics ever written and Marr's best guitar work out of all the albums. "Paint A Vulgar Picture" is one of the most beatiful songs I've ever heard and "Last Night I Dreamnt Someone Loved Me" is a great song for the depressed hopeless romantic like myself. Do yourself a favor if you have taste and hear for a differnt sound pick up this album.
Free Music Review: Elvis WHO? Bring on Morrissey! Hit: 5 Stars
Smiths - Morrissey: let me give you the conclusion that took me 18 years to arrive at. Besides the song Meat is Murder, Morrissey doesn't have a bad song is his catalog. I used to think "Kill Uncle" (by Morrissey) was a lame album and that "Maladjusted" was worse. I traded in both cd's only to buy them back years later. It is a disservice to judge The Smiths and Morrissey album by album, this one is more sorrowful, this one has the right mix of angst, self-indulgence, wit, blah, blah, blah. Stick all the songs on MP3 format and press random: it is sonic Heaven and Hell. Morrissey IS the Mozart of our time, he will die as a blip on the musical scene with most people drawing a blank stare at the mention of "How Soon is Now." Oh wait, didn't he write the theme song for "Charmed."
Free Music Review: Their Best? Hit: 5 Stars
Johnny and Morrissey consider this their best album and I have to agree. Most Smith's fans would probably say The Queen is Dead is The Smiths best album, but I would say this because of how much more experimental it was than the previous three. Sonically, this album was pushing the edge of the envelope. Look at the first track. There isn't one single piece of guitar on it at all. The last track has him playing an insrument which he had found on one of the studio window sills covered with dust. Last Night I Dreamt. . . is one of their finest moments. Like The Queen is Dead there is really only one really "down" moment on the album and that is Death at One's Elbow. What a great album, one of the best pop/rock albums of all time. I would even be so bold as to put it up there with Rubber Soul and Let it Bleed
Free Music Review: The culmination of all things sad and wonderful Hit: 5 Stars
Very possibly the best album ever put together; This album is lusher, more melodic, and more mature than anything the Smiths had done previously. Without a doubt, the incredible melodic senses of Marr and Moz overlap and change dynamic like a pair or lover kissing softly, then strongly. THe sheer perfection of the album makes my heart ache with every listen. This is the best that the Smiths had to offer, and they were wise enough to end their career as a band with this legendary glimpse into the eyes and heart of genius. After seeing Morrissey in Providence, I am convinced that he is the foremost melodic genius of alt/pop/morbid love songs today.
