There are two types of SMITHS fans, those that like THE QUEEN IS DEAD and those who appreciate STRANGEWAYS HERE WE COME (a perfect album that cracked into the mainstream and therefore must be crap to the self-loathing THE QUEEN IS DEAD fans). I really like THE QUEEN IS DEAD, it is brilliant, but alas you simply are a dullard if you think THE QUEEN IS DEAD is better than STRANGEWAYS HERE WE COME. My guess is that if THE QUEEN IS DEAD got as much airplay as STRANGEWAYS HERE WE COME, then you'd be saying that THE QUEEN IS DEAD sucks, and that LOUDER THAN BOMBS is the best album ever.Free Music Review: who cares if it's the worst album?

My impression is that the Smiths is one of those bands that has fans that love it/them so much that even their "worst" album is a deep pleasure. I could empathize with someone saying that about Strangeways, but there is still that magic that touches us, that makes us feel there music is more than music to us. I feel this way about R.E.M, up to a point (and I'm sure you know it's a point out of time), Elliott Smith, Radiohead. There are thankfully some recording artists out there who you can depend on never to release total, disappointing crap. The Smiths were one of those artists.Free Music Review: Smiths saved the best for last, well, sort of.

Strangeways, Here We Come offers two of the best Smith songs ever written. Paint a Vulgar Picture is by far the climax of the Smiths' artistic achievements. It stands alone as the song that all other Smiths' songs will be measured by. Girlfriend in a Coma is similarly brilliant. At only two minutes, this song stands as "pound for pound" one of the greatest of all time. The other songs embrace the same brilliance that we expect from the Smiths, yet somehow don't have the same impact as the "lesser" songs on other Smiths' albums.Free Music Review: THE SMITHS - Strangeways, Here We Come

For me, this is The SMITHS' finest album & a CLASSIC!!! From the album cover art (a close-up frontal view of Richard Davalos' face) to the 10 catchy, addicting & very very good songs like "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Love Me", "Paint A Vulgar Picture", "Girlfriend In A Coma" et.al. I'm also obsessed with this album in a way that I've been hoarding CDs (US-Made only) of this title for the last 7 years, I now have 106 pcs. of The SMITHS - Strangeways, Here We Come CD and counting! Obviously, this is my No.1 album of all time - try it to believe it.Free Music Review: I LOVE MOZ!!!

This was the first Smiths albulm that I had ever heard. I have been a Smiths fan ever since. The first song I ever heard was "A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours". I've been ensnared in Morrissey's eloquent web ever since. That was seven years ago. My favourite tracks on this CD are "Death of a Disco Dancer", "Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody loved me", and "I won't share you". This is an absolutely fabulous piece of work. Morrissey, you are truly a beautiful person, and I thank you.
