Free Music Notes for The Sound of Music (1965 Film Soundtrack)Free Music Review: fine soundtrack album from one of the greatest motion pictures ever made Hit: 5 Stars
This CD has the musical numbers from the 1965 motion picture entitled The Sound Of Music. While this is not the latest version of the soundtrack CD with all the bells and whistles; this still remains a solid album giving us every last hit song from this major motion picture musical. The quality of the sound is clear and crisp; and that artwork is really very beautiful.
The CD begins with the music from the prelude and the overture to the movie musical. This music is delightful and they never miss! The strings and percussion are used to great advantage and we essentially get a musical medley of the arrangements for the major songs in the movie. Excellent! "Maria" is sung by several actresses playing nuns at the convent; they sing flawlessly about Maria, a nun who just doesn't fit in with the rest of the nuns. The melody is really very pretty and it all holds its own very well. Julie Andrews finally comes in on her number entitled "I Have Confidence." Julie Andrews' magnificent voice is rich, warm and very vibrant. Julie handles the tempo and key changes like the pro she always was and only Julie Andrews could have delivered this so well.
Charmian Carr and Dan Truhitte perform "Sixteen Going On Seventeen" with grace and style; this song highlights their young love and it's very well done. Neither one of them ever misses a note! "My Favorite Things" brings back Julie Andrews to do yet another smash-up flawless job on this excellent, very memorable number from this movie. Listen also for Julie Andrews to sing "D-Re-Mi" with the captain's children; this number really takes off when the children come in! The children also perform an astounding rendition of "The Sound Of Music."
"The Lonely Goatherd" has Julie Andrews again singing with the children; this charming number never ceases to delight me. The horn solo enhances the natural beauty of this number; and there's also "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" sung by the Mother Superior (Peggy Wood) at the convent when Maria (Julie Andrews) does decide to leave the convent.
The CD ends with two very stirring and emotional numbers: we get "Edelweiss" with Christopher Plummer, Julie Andrews and the children singing very well and the reprise of "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" is sure to please!
Rodgers and Hammerstein sure did their best on this one! They were practically infallible and this album proves it easily. I highly recommend this album for fans of this movie and people who enjoy show tunes will also want this album for their collections.
Free Music Review: "I must have done something good..." Hit: 5 Stars
"I must have done something good" to deserve to have such a wonderful musical make an impact on my life. Just for a little info on myself, I am a 14 year old girl who loves musicals, which may seem a little unusual but hey. This album is wonderful mainly because the movie was so wonderful, I have seen this movie so many times that the viodeo hardly works any longer. The songs on this album are magnificent, u can tell as soon as you hear the first strains of music on the first track when little birds start chirping and then Julie Andrew joins in with her wonderful voice to sing a superb "The Sound of Music", you can actually feel how nervous Maria must have been when she sings, "I have Confidence", and you can feel the love between her and the Captain when they sing "Something Good" This soundtrack is for people of all ages, as a younger child I enjoyed just hearing the upbeat tunes and laughin at the comical "Lonely Goatherd" now as I get older I understand the story line and feel connected to the characters. If you've never seen the movie then I suggest you view it as quickly as possible, it will make your "heart sing every song it hears"
Free Music Review: A Redemption of Innocence Hit: 5 Stars
Over the seventeen years of my life, I have adored The Sound of Music, and have recently enjoyed listening to the film's soundtrack. I should say that there is certainly a level of aquaintance with the music that can't be achieved while watching the accompanying film, and so have found it wonderful to own the score. I've given some thought as to how it is that The Sound of Music is so beloved, with the devotion of its following surpassing that of any other musical, and have decided that both film and music succeed in walking a remarkable line between overbearing stiffness and the near ridiculous giddy-sweetness that has doubtless motivated many conscientious objectors to the musical genre. The characters of Captain Von Trapp and The Mother Abbess et al., not to mention the grand and graceful use of set and scenery, perfectly embody the more mature side of The Sound of Music. While the children's voices balance things out with an innocent charm lacking the slightest pretention, Maria acts the ambassador, eliciting the best from each of these two sources. All this, to create a musical that is singularly irresistable and almost universally admired.
Free Music Review: The hills are alive.. Hit: 5 Stars
I grew up to `The sound of music', both the movie and the soundtrack. A pure classic! I wore out the LP at home. They don't make movies or music like this anymore.
The reissued CD is excellent. Right from the booklet chock full of information on the movie and the music, and includes all the original LP photos. Was like a dream come true finally getting this classic on CD.
No need to go into detail about the tracks as I'm sure every one on planet earth knows each and every track, LOL!! I mean, who didn't grow up singing Ley O, ley O Ley Hee hee, or Do a deer, a female deer? One can remember each scene associated with each track, the sign of a successful soundtrack/musical.
However, my personal favourites are `Eidelweiss' (one of the most touching moments in the movie, especially when Captain Von Trapp can't go on and Maria and the children take over), and `Climb ev'ry mountain' (always such an inspiration to me).
Each track is special, and perfectly placed in the movie, which has to be arguably the greatest musical ever!
Free Music Review: The Most Beautiful Sound in all the world Hit: 5 Stars
This is without a doubt the most beautiful music that has ever been on the Earth. Even before I saw the movie I had heard every single song on the soundtrack through other people singing it from time to time. Every single song in this musical is a classic in its own right. Not many musicals (If any) can say that every single song is a classic and has a legacy of its own. In the Sound of Music though they are. THere is not one bad song on the soundtrack, while many other musicals have three or four really wonderful songs this one every single song is a masterpiece. You also have some of the most beautiful voices singing these songs. So buy the most wonderful musical soundtrack ever made today. The happiest sound in all the world will continue to enchant and inspire forever.
