THE SOUND OF MUSIC is one of the most celebrated musicals of all time, and I cannot imagine a better recording then this one, featuring the lovely Julie Andrews as Maria.****
NOTE: This wonderous soundtrack album was given two 35th Anniversary Editions, a more basic edition with just the standard remastered soundtrack and a two-disc version with the standard edition CD and a bonus disc of alternate versions, some score, and an interview with Richard Rodgers. I purchased the single disc version, so don't look to this review for commentary on the second disc.

Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. Most of your favorite songs are on this disc, while the first version of "Edelweiss" heard (sung only by The Captian) is sadly absent (although purchasers of the two-disc version are treated to it on the bonus CD.) Still, this soundtrack will have you singing along in minutes, and the sound has been flawlessly restored for an even better listening experiece. The CD booklet contains very well-written and interesting liner notes which make for good reading for the serious Sound of Music fan as well as great pictures. Unfortunately, though, the lyrics are missing. Perhaps they are included in the booklet with the 2-disc version.
In conclusion, this is a great soundtrack album, but a flawed release for the absense of lyrics and Christopher Plummer's "Edelweiss." Perhaps it would be better for you to get the 2-disc edition, or perhaps this version suits your budget. Whichever version you choose, this music is classic and should not be missed.
