Free Music Review: An All-Time Classics
Hit: 4 Stars

The movie "The Sound of Music" premiered long before I was born. Yet the "sound" of the music really captured my heart after listening to the soundtrack a couple times. Tunes like "My Favorite Things", "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and "The Lonely Goatherd" kept resonating in my mind.

Julie Andrews' crystalline vocal is appealing. One of my favorite musical songs of all time is "My Favorite Things". While Mother Abbess shared many enthusiasms with Maria (My Favorite Things), Mother decided that Maria was not ready for the religious life at the nunnery and sent her out of the Abbey to become temporary governess to the children of Captin von Trapp.

"Do-Re-Mi" came about when Maria taught the Captain's children to sing and enjoy life. The Captain had become a martinet since the death if his wife. "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" unraveled the beautiful puppy love between the oldest child Liesl who, in the throes of first love, stole out to meet the village boy Rolf Gruber. The most heart-warming track "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" described when Maria realized she was in love with the Captain. Mother Abbbess advised her that the love between a man and a woman was holy.

The musical produces other timeless classics like "How Can Love Survive", "An Ordinary Couple", and "Edelweiss"....I do not want to give away the story and thus ruin one's pleasure in watching the movie. One thing for sure, once you start listening to the songs from "The Sound of Music", the tunes will become the sounds in your heart.

Free Music Review: Fron our best memories
Hit: 4 Stars

Playing again "The Sound of Music" after many years is a wonderful experience: an entire life comes back in your mind, and you can remember not only the film, the music, the persons, at first the sweet Maria naturally, but a world where you, your brothers, your little friends, all you were different, and you could feel this story and this music in a way perhaps impossible now. Then this music is like the gentle touch of a dear soul. Telling about this disc without telling about the film is not easy. But really this music is wonderful, it has a place between the best musical even written. Some songs have so much rythm and so beautiful melody that they can be used like standard for all jazzmen: "My favorite things", at first, but also "Sixteen Going On Seventeen" or "Do-Re-Mi". I think it's impossible not save these songs even if you have listened only one time. Others are equally good because their sweetness: "Edelweiss", "Maria" and the exciting "The sound of music", in which we can find the real philosophy of this soundtrack. I prefer this edition, because it's possible to listen Julie Andrews and I think this is a situation in which we have to respect the old recordings.

Free Music Review: This album needs no praise

You are already aware of the basics. Rodgers & Hammerstein only produce winners. Julie Andrews has exceptional range clarity and stamina. The Musical is a classic.

As with most sound tracks they threw everything in (well maybe not everything). And due to the wide audience every one will have a different favorite song. Personally having all the music helps me remember the movie. However for just listening I have no problem by-passing a few. Even watching the movie, I always considered "I Have Confidence" to not be quit up to standard. Of course "The Sound Of Music" is a given. Yet if I had to pick one my favorite is "Edelweiss" If the songs were cut short it may be due to logistics.

Free Music Review: Incomplete Sound of Music
Hit: 4 Stars

Unfortunately this CD is not the complete soundtrack. It cuts off the end of Sixteen Going on Seventeen, it doesn't offer the original time that the Captain and Liesel sing Edelweiss, it doesn't offer the music in the chase scene or the complete wedding music. An audio tape was released that had the complete music--unfortunately we lost our copy and I purchased this cd instead, but I'm always disappointed when I hear it. If you are a true fan of the complete album or the complete movie, you may be disappointed.
