Free Music Notes for The Stooges

Free Music Review: Oh that Iggy......
Hit: 4 Stars

The year is 1969. It's the height of the psychedelic era. Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead all flowing and dropping hits. Out of the sewers of New York come The Stooges. Listen to this album and think, "it's 1969?" Unbelievable. One of the precursors of the late seventies punk movement, Iggy and Co. were lighting a fire underneath every man, woman and child wearing tye dye. If you doubt me, just listen to "I Wanna Be Your Dog" for proof. Album after album, they delivered high power raucous tunes from beneath the grime. And if your only experience of this band and its front man is from commercials, then just stop reading right now and go buy the new album from Weezer. You are not ready. Put this on 10 and get dirty.

Free Music Review: As usual Rhino delivers the goods
Hit: 4 Stars

"Either you're a fan of Iggy Pop and The Stooges or you're not. I fall into the latter category. Although, I can't deny the raw, underground rock sound that The Stooges helped create on their debut and sophomore albums. With The Stooges you get the original 8 tracks plus the original mixes on the bonus disc that were deemed to artsy back in 1969.

With Funhouse, Iggy expands on his lyrical ability; I think these seven songs combined have twice as many words as their debut. The songs on the bonus disc are alternate takes of what turned out to be the final product. As usual Rhino delivers the goods with a combined total of 24 bonus tracks, original artwork, and expanded liner notes."

Free Music Review: top notch
Hit: 4 Stars

Consider yourself an Iggy/Stooges fan? If so, then you MUST own a copy of this. The 1st disc is a great remaster of that fine, fine album with loads of clarity and punch.

The 2nd disc is a selection of previously unreleased outtakes and alternate versions. Worth the price of admission alone is the almost 7 minute version of `No Fun'. And what a great version it is, too.

Now I know why my Mom wouldn't allow my brother to buy this album way back in '69...it was TOO COOL and hip and WAY ahead of it's time. Even today, this album sounds relevant. Long live Iggy Pop!!

Free Music Review: A great debut!
Hit: 4 Stars

This self-titled debut from The Stooges is a remarkable album, heavy at times, atmospheric at others, it defies any "punk" label that is flung at it.
