Free Music Notes for Stylistics-Best OfFree Music Review: Quality Never Goes Out Of Style Hit: 5 Stars
Certain soul groups are so smooth and beautiful to the ear that they reach way inside to a pleasure center that doesn't get tickled any other way. The Delfoncis come to mind, and so do the Stylistics. Both groups came from Philly, and both were backed by producer Thom Bell who relied on lyrics from Linda Creed. Both featured soaring falsettos, in the case of the Stylistics it was Russell Thompkins who led the way. While ultimately the Stylistics did not have the staying power the Delphonics would enjoy, their highs were just as high and they left us with some pop standards that will never go out of style.
As long as there is romance, there will be reason enough to put on the Stylistics, and this CD delivers the "must-have" cuts in one neat package. Their anthem, People Make The World Go Round, sounds as fresh, sweet, and relevant today as when it was released. Betcha By Golly, Wow says what every lover wants to say and every lover wants to hear. Break Up To Make Up is bittersweet stuff, stinging with truth. You Are Everything is another ballad of crystalline beauty, as is Let's Put It All Together. Even the second-best songs on this disc were big hits in their day; this is a highly select offering. Everybody likes to rock out and everybody likes to Wang Chung, but if there's a part of you that resonates with the gentle vulnerability of love offered up like a flower, you will find that this music wraps you like a warm coat in winter and a welcome breeze in summer. Betcha by golly, wow, you're the one that I've been waiting for.

Strange things happen in recording studios. Who'd have imagined, for example, that the members of a couple of obscure R&B groups, plus a lead singer given to hitting notes so high they'd blow out windows (practically the first thing he heard from the control booth, reportedly, was something along the lines of "Hey, Russ, could you bring it down a scosh?") would one day team up with an equally obscure African-American record producer, slash arranger, slash songwriter, and a Jewish girl at Gamble & Hoff's Philadelphia International Records, and somehow create a handful of pop songs so darned soulful and musically ravishing they would all but instantly establish themselves as the absolute apotheosis of what would soon be known as "Philly Soul"? True, you can clearly tell the classically trained Thom Bell and his lyricist, the late Linda Creed (all but two of the tracks here are theirs), took more then a few pages from Burt Bacharach and Hal David's book to pull off this unlikely marriage of soaring doo-wop harmonies and urbane Brill Building cool. But if you're going to steal from somebody it's pretty hard to go wrong stealing from them. (And I for one couldn't be more grateful. Where would the enthralling (and wrenchingly sad) "Break Up To Make Up" be without that wonderful little euphonium riff they filched from Bacharach and David's 1965 top ten single "What The World Needs Now Is Love"?) In any case, they're all here. More timeless pop masterpieces then you're likely to find on any one CD in many a year.

Some of my uncles and even my father said to me "Youngsta, what U know bout this music"? All I can say is "I know good music when I hear it". I was born in 73 so I'm not that young.
Anyway, back to the review....the Stylystics music reminds me when my mother and father we're in love. They would dance and play the Stylistic's albums all night. It seems like those were the good old days. I didn't appreciate their music that much when i was a kid, my mind wasn't mature enough. Listening to them now is like a breath of fresh air. My most favorite song is.....well, I'm sure ya'll know just by looking at the title of my review. I want to thank this group for such wonderful memories. I still live those memories every time I put this cd in and give it a spin. Excellent music!RIP MOMA
Free Music Review: Simply Outstanding Music! Hit: 5 Stars
For over 30 years, the Stylistics have been one of my favorite groups.Mention their name to someone, and they ask.."What did they sing". When you start singing a few bars of their hits, they immediately recognize the group. Although they seemed to not enjoy the notariety of the Temptations, and Four Tops, this group was, and still is Superb. This CD is loaded with their biggest hits. The popularity of the songs spans generations. Our teens play the Stylistics songs as often as we do. If you've seen the public television show "70's Soul" you realize that this is and always will be one of the major groups in the history of soul music. This CD is a must-have, and will NOT disappoint you!
