Free Music Notes for Traveling Wilburys (2 CD / 1 DVD)Free Music Review: A Joyful Experience Hit: 5 StarsJust received this three disc set and immediately watched "The Making Of" DVD. I loved watching these power-house performers have fun and create such joyful music. End Of The Line is so much fun to watch and listen to. It's a great way to start your day. Tweeter And The Monkey Man is Dylan to the core ... witty, puzzling and thought provoking, fun. Handle With Care seems so happy and yet when really listening to the lyrics it's a bit heartbreaking too. There's not a bad song in the bunch. It looks like they had a great time making the album and I had a great time listening and watching. The moon and stars must have aligned themselves just right to get these guys in the same place at the same time with a common goal ... to have fun and make good music. Gonna run outside and see if the sky is yella! Thanks guys!
Free Music Review: Tweeter and the Baby Boomers Hit: 4 StarsFor an assemblage of big-name stars, the Traveling Wilburys is about as good as it gets. Lynne, Dylan, Harrison, Orbison, and Petty team up and perform together just as well as they do when on their own with their own bands. Usually super groups come across as contrived and shoe-horned to fit a market niche, but these guys combine in a way that, had Roy Orbison lived another 5 years or more, they might have achieved enough fame as a group to rival the fame they achieved on their own, or, in Harrison's case, as a lesser member of the Beatles. Who knows? The only drawback I can find is that their musical style is a bit dated, so maybe today's listeners won't be very impressed, but for nostalgic "boomers" on a fixed income you can't beat the 2 CD/1 DVD set that's being offered for sale. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Fast Great wonderful Hit: 5 StarsThis Traveling Wildury's 2 CD and 1 DVD set was delivered quickly and is in perfect shape. Thanks so much.
Free Music Review: Even better than you would expect from these guys Hit: 5 StarsMusic lovers would rightfully expect some pretty awesome songs to be written and performed by a group consisting of George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Bob Dylan, but, I dare say, no one could have anticipated the treasure that these superstar musicians created. No, not even George, Tom, Jeff, Roy, and Bob themselves had an inkling that they would achieve what they did.
The story of how these recording industry giants came together to form the "Traveling Wilburys" is as amazing as the music they produced. These guys were all friends, and when George Harrison needed to come up with a song for the flip side of a new single of his that was about to be released called "This Is Love," he acted more or less on a whim and asked his friends to collaborate with him to come up with a song that could be used for that purpose. What they came up with was the song "Handle With Care," and it was way too good to be a "B" side.
This was the birth of "The Traveling Wiburys." Their story, as told by the Wilburys themselves, is included on a DVD in this set, and it is just about as entertaining as the music.
Because of the success with their first song, and because of the fun they had in recording it, George asked the others if they would like to make an album. They agreed, and in only ten days in May of 1988 they came up with the ten songs of their first album.
The spontaneity of their collaboration is plainly felt as one listens to their music. It was magic from Day One.
My two favorite songs are "Handle With Care" and "End of the Line." I love the videos, too, especially the "End of the Line" video.
I cannot recommend this 2 CD, 1 DVD set strongly enough! It is unimaginable to me that anyone who likes the music of each of these performers individually would not absolutely love the songs of the Wilburys.
This one is a "must have!"
Tom
P.S.
It is sad that George Harrison and Roy Orbison have passed away. May God rest your souls, George and Roy. Thank you for the great music you left us.
