Free Music Notes for 40 DaysFree Music Review: Simply beautiful and melodious...... Hit: 5 StarsIf you've ever wondered what the angels sound like when they sing as a chorus (or as a trio, in this case), The Wailin' Jennys are for you. This gorgeous 2004 release features the blended voices of Cara Luft, Nicky Mehta and Ruth Moody. Their sound is at once ethereal and blissful. The album kicks off with "One Voice," a beautiful piece that showcases their three part harmony at its best. "Saucy Sailor" is part sea chanty and part folk melody. Their subject matter ranges from love to pondering the afterlife. This album veers so far from mainstream subjects and mundane melodies, so often heard on the radio. It is a breath of fresh air and we are so blessed to hear such beauty.
Free Music Review: great listen! Hit: 5 StarsMy husband & I fell in love with the Wailin' Jennys when we first saw them in concert in November. I got this CD for my husband for Christmas and we just can't stop listening to it. Their harmonies are amazing, and their song writing superb. I highly, highly recommend this disc.
Free Music Review: Beautiful! Hit: 5 StarsThis is a worthwhile download for any fan of perfect harmony, great melodies, and intelligent lyrics. Very similar to The Be Good Tanyas, if that helps. Standouts here are "Saucy Sailor" (made "famous" for me by Steeleye Span) and Neil Young's "Old Man."
A beautifully made album. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Can't stop listening to this CD! Hit: 5 StarsWe were first introduced to the Wailin' Jennys on A Prairie Home Companion last year and found their songs and their sound to be so memorable that we purchased tickets to see them in concert locally this past May. We have since purchased both the 40 Days and Firecracker CDs, and just can't recommend them enough. Incredible harmonies in beautifully written, inspiring, timeless songs.
Free Music Review: Record of the Year Hit: 5 StarsIf you've not heard this album, you're missing a masterpiece. The harmony is stunning, the song selection fabulous, the arrangements are subtle, tasteful and appropriately understated, and the overall production a huge success. It's my best find from last year and one of my all time favorites albums ever.
