Free Music Review: Best Musical since Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

This trend of converting movies into musicals is working pretty well (Producers, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) But I must say Wedding Singer beats them all! The music is extremely catchy and often hilarious. The Most important thing is there all easy to sit through. Every musical has at least one song i'm itching to skip, not this one.
Stephen Lynch is a worthy replacement to the character Adam Sandler created and he's a great singer.
Laura Benanti doesn't quite have the innocent charm of Drew Barrymore's Julia but she's sings very good with Stepehen Lynch.
The Supporting Cast is awsome, I just wish Richard H. Blake as Glen would be a little more of the jerk he's supposed to be. The harmonies in the ensemble songs are amazing, probably the best I've heard.
Highlights! actually all the songs are but I'll comment on a few.
1. It's Your Wedding Day (So Catchy you can listen to it forever. the tony awards performance of this song is the reason I bought the cd)
5. Somebody Kill Me (Funniest thing Adam Sandler's ever wrote)
6. A Note From Grandma (Seems boring at first until the end, where you laugh for an hour or two)
7. Casulty of Love (For those who miss Love Stinks, too bad. This song is great rock beat with clever lyrics, Including a "Trekkie" (Star Trek fan) who says "I got stood up by my date and by date I mean my mom")
8. Come out of the dumpster (Another Trend in these Musicals based on movies. Take a typical cliche broadway song and make it as cheesy and funny as possible. Other examples, Spamalot's "The Song That Goes Like This" and Dirty Rotten Scoudrels "Nothing is too Wonderful")
9. Today You Are A Man (This is a Bar Mitzvah and is very special to me cause they butcher Hebrew in it. It's Hilarious and the icing on the cake is ending the song by saying "Ole!"
10. George's Prayer (Angel from Rent singing the Baruch Atah is the best way to describe it)
11. Not that kind of thing (Probably my second favorite song on the cd. The Song where Robbie and Julia sort of discover they have a thing together while shopping at the mall, listen for the Van Hailen opening)
12. Saturday Night in the City (Fun rock song, very night-clubbish, which is appropriate cause it's in a night-club)
13. All About The Green (Good catchy song, with funny 80's stockmarket jokes. Like putting stock in "New Coke" and not in "Starbucks" "Nobody's going to pay 3 bucks for a cup of coffee" Still wish Glen acted a little better)
16. Single (GREAT LYRICS!!!)
17. If I Told You (Love song amazing harmonies)
18. Let Me Come Home (heavy-metal, better seeing this one live where it's funny. Here it's more scary)
20. Move that Thang (A Grandma and a Drag Queen rapping, need I say more?)
21. Grow Old With You (Another Adam Sandler song, very cute lyrics and nice melody)
22. It's Your Wedding Day Reprise! (Good reprise with celebrity impersonators like tina turner, billy idol, Mr. T and Ronald Reagan. A rock reprise of If I told you. Great closing to the show. a suprise ending 20 seconds after the cd is over, so don't turn your cd player off)
The songs I didn't mention are good just nothing special.
All in All "Somebody Kill me" and "It's Your Wedding Day" are worth the price of the cd and "Not that kind of thing" is a great bonus as well.

When it comes to retro-action, it's hard to top The Wedding Singer, the 1980s-set film in which Adam Sandler sang in a wedding band and looked for his own true love. The soundtrack was wall-to-wall 80s hits and the movie played up visual references to that decade. Now we have the stage version, and it's even more retro than the movie, except this time around the songs are originals, written by Chad Beguelin and Matthew Sklar. ("Somebody Kill Me" and "Grow Old With You" actually are the ones originals from the film.) The duo has delivered a silly-but-fun pop score that often refers to 80s musical styles without hitting you over head with them?-you'll hear nods to early Madonna and Prince and a whole lot of cheesy synth lines. Think of it as the 80s answer to Hairspray. Opener "It's Your Wedding Day" and "Someday," for instance, will stick in your head for days on end. Singing comedian Stephen Lynch proves to be an endearing leading man, while silver-throated Laura Benanti takes up the Drew Barrymore part.
