Free Music Review: Hands down the best album of the year!
Hit: 5 Stars

First I would like to say;

If you're a fan of the previous White Stripes album, don't buy this.

If you're a music fan, buy this.

This is a brilliant album filled with amazing guitars, beautiful vocals, witty but sometimes deep lyrics and a clever use of the piano.

1.BLUE ORCHID: Great opening track. Love the guitar, love the beat, love Jack's voice. The music video featuring Jack White's wife is also beautiful. 5/5

2. THE NURSE: I have never listened to this song from beginning to end. Weakest song on the album. The random bursts of instruments just don't do it for me. 3/5

3. MY DOORBELL: Such a catchy song. I avoid listening to this song because when I do, I sing it *out loud* ALL day long. Even thinking about it adheres it to your brain, cause right I can't stop singing "I'm thinking about my doorbell when ya gonna ring it? When ya gonna ring it?"!!!!! Such a great song, you don't even notice the absence of the guitar. 5/5

4. FOREVER FOR HER (IS OVER FOR ME): A very passionate and emotional song. One of the slower songs on the album. 3/5

5. LITTLE GHOST: Oh myyyy, I so did not expect this song on this album! It's brilliant! Loooove the lyrics and the vocals. 4/5

6. THE DENIAL TWIST: My favortest track off the album. Oh my gahhh the lyrics are amazing, Jack sounds beyond incredible and the music is perfection. And we get the best of both worlds! Guitar aaaand pianooo! 100/5

7. WHITE MOON: One of the slower songs on the album. So much emotion... but doesn't really stand out compared to the other songs on the album 3/5

8. INSTINCT BLUES: This song is amazinggg seriously, I can't even begin to describe it! One of my favortest songs of *all time*! The guitar is INCREDIBLE and the vocals are equally amazing and the lyrics are a very good kind of weird. Put on your headphones, close your eyes, and listen to the music. I promise you'll be playing air guitar in no time! 100/5

8. PASSIVE MANIPULATION: Yeah go Meg! A simple song written and performed by Meg with very nice lyrics. 4/5

9. TAKE, TAKE, TAKE: Some of the best lyrics on the album. One of the best songs on the album. I love how there's 2 Jacks singing. Not much to say about this song, you just gotta listen to it. 5/5

10. UGLY AS I SEEM: Truly a beautiful song! The guitar is beautiful, the lyrics are beautiful, Jack's singing is beautiful... 5/5

11. RED RAIN: Starts out simple, turns into a kick-ass rock song. One of the high points of the album with it's creative arrangement, interesting vocals and instuments, amazing lyrics. 5/5

12. I'M LONELY (BUT I AIN'T THAT LONELY YET): A nice little piano tune with great vocals and lyrics. 4/5

Overall: 5/5

oh and by this album!

Free Music Review: Get Behind the White Stripes
Hit: 5 Stars

I am one of those people who got into the White Stripes in the midst of the "White Blood Cells" hype in spring '02. While I think that they are certainly more deserving of the hype than a New York band who plays average music, the White Stripes are always above average. I found this through listening to their back catalog and I find this even through their current stuff. They clearly are not running out of ideas. Where "Elephant" was a half-counterpart to "White Blood Cells" (half because we didn't see it coming that we'd be tricked into thinking Jack was playing bass and the actuality of Meg singing lead and there being a seven-minute track), "Get Behind Me Satan" more often than not goes into some new Stripes territory.

"Blue Orchid" is a classic White Stripes track, and single, even. It's loud, catchy, and what's interesting is that this time around Jack uses his falsetto more effectively than any time on the first four Stripes records. At only two-and-a-half minutes, it was a nice track that will be remembered over time.

The rest of the album is comparably different. I thought "White Blood Cells" was their most varied, but it's kind of hard to give that nod given the variety here. While there's also a country song in "Little Ghost", this isn't the energetic Stones-like track you may have expected on a White Stripes record. In fact it is more in line with his "Cold Mountain" contributions than anything else. It's a nice track, however.

Meg does take lead again. This time it's much shorter and while not quite as good, still fun and with a good and simple message. The 35 second track is quite fun to listen to. "Passive Manipulation" is kind of benefited on album location as well. It feels fine as the predecessor track of "Take, Take, Take".

Elsewhere, the mariamba-and-piano influence is notable among listening to "Satan". One of these that will be remembered for the right reasons is "The Denial Twist", a track that gets stuck in your head for awhile and is executed just right. Then there's the piano use of the single "My Doobell", possibly the most playful track on the record, but you don't expect it to come up front as much as what happens on "Forever for Her (Is Over for Me)", the closest thing to a "This Protector" you get on here. But that is also a good thing, as it still manages to be its own track, and shows Jack White's great songwriting.

There are its flaws in places, I must admit. None of these are major enough for me to deduct an entire star from my rating. For one thing, that distortion that comes in on "The Nurse" is kind of annoying and unnecessary and is my least favorite song on the record. It is not quite as consistent as "De Stijl", but it's just fine. If you like the White Stripes, buy.

Free Music Review: a very great & diverse rock record..a taste for everyone...
Hit: 5 Stars

...this is a great cd. I have all the Stripes other cds & this own fits in with them just fine. It does not have as many heavy blues rock songs as the other cds, although I do believe one other cd was similar to this one in its mix of pop/ballad stuff and rockblues riffing stuff.

as the album description to the White stripes' De Stil CD reads "De Stijl, the Dutch word for the style, is the sophomore CD from the Southwest Detroit brother and sister duo THE WHITE STRIPES. This album is based more on piano, open-A tuning and primal drum beats. It is also augmented by electric violin, acoustic bass and presents the listener with more melodic pieces. 13 tracks"

...this type of eclectic mix of various music styles is not really new for the Stripes to be experimenting with and they pull them of with enjoyable results, as they did before. Best album ever? no. what rock album is?? but their is more than enough room for many great albums of various musical styles. This cd has a little for everyone. from blues to rock to bluegrass to pop to soul to ballads to bowie type singing. A great listening, feeling, and even intellectual experience. I really enjoy bands that push various & diverse styles that can be incorporatedd into rock, and even created their own styles. Kindof like the beach boys, beatles, beck(old & new), bowie, kinks, grateful dead, stones, led zep, the cure, roxy music, the clash, metallica, psychodelic furs, zakk wylde, etc...

BTW ignore the obvious negative reviews of people who havent even listened to this cd. Hey everyone is entitled to their opinion but at least do a CD REVIEW and not a REVIEW OF THE BAND'S PERSONALITIES. TWO SEPARATE ISSUES. EVEN THE "PROFESSIONAL" REVIEWERS ARE DOING THIS TYPE OF REVIEWING(AND GETTING PAID FOR IT) AND IT DOESNT HELP GIVE ANYONE A CLEAR IDEA ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE REVIEWING. wtf???

There are other bands releasing stuff lately that i dont even bother reviewing. I think their latest stuff sucks but i dont feel like commenting unless I buy or listen some other way, all the way thru it. I just have a gut feeling but am not sure soooooo....no listen, no review. And I am a person who bought much of their previous works. But respect is a overlooked commodity these days so people will give negative reviews just to bring the ratings down. That what people do who are more street smart than polite, I guess...I would like those who ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE MUSIC TO DETERMINE THE OVERALL RATING. If it gets high ratings and i think it sucks, so be it. It deserves to be heard. And if it gets low ratings it also deserves to be heard. But these private crusades against bands is ridiculous, plain and simple...

So much for all the negativitey...Iguess...

I never understand why, when musicians spend a small amount of time creating an album, their record labels advertise this fact. This kind of tidbit leaves the album ripe for criticism, especially if it doesn't hold up to the musician's past efforts (the typical review contains something like "This sounds like it was made in two weeks"). One album, Daft Punk's Human After All, has already succumbed to this, and it was possible that the White Stripes' new album, Get Behind Me Satan, would follow suit. Thankfully, this is not the case.

With every new White Stripes album, Jack and Meg take in even more musical influences and genre styles and apply their rules of lo-fi recording and straightforward songwriting, to craft a collection of songs that are throwbacks to the music of yesteryear, yet are strikingly original. With Get Behind Me Satan, the Stripes have concocted yet another stellar list of immediate and engaging music.

Don't let the lead single "Blue Orchid" fool you. This album doesn't rock as much as Elephant, the duo's 2003 release that made the top of numerous Best Of lists. In fact, with the exception of two tracks ("Blue Orchid" and the Elephant throwback "Instinct Blues"), there's nary an electric guitar to be found. Instead, Jack White ops for pounding pianos, marimbas, and bongos, among other unique forms of instrumentation. The strangest example comes in the form of "The Nurse," which immediately follows "Blue Orchid" (there's hardly any pauses between tracks, giving listeners barely any time to catch their breath). "The Nurse" contains the aforementioned marimbas as well as stuttering drumbeats that seem to go against the rhythm of the song entirely, making for a bizarre and, ultimately fascinating track.

Still, the best moments on Get Behind Me Satan are the most immediate and accessible ones, like "My Doorbell," which grabs the listener and forces him (or her) to start pounding the nearest tabletop, pantomiming Jack's forceful piano. Experience similar phenomenon while listening to "The Denial Twist," which boasts not only the funniest track name, but some clever lyrics as well ("So now you're mad, denying the truth/And it's getting in the wisdom in the back of your tooth"). Once again, Jack White wears his inspirations on his sleeve as the piano returns for a finale on the Elton John-inspired "I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)," but not before he performs "As Ugly As I Seem," an acoustic guitar ballad that wouldn't feel out of place on the White Album.

The White Stripes continue to excel in crafting albums that are immediately enjoyable to the first-time listener, and yet, continue to build upon themselves with each and every push of the Play button.

Free Music Review: Jaw-droppingly fantastic.

I bought this album on June 7th, the day of its United States release. I was amazed. I'd heard Blue Orchid on the radio and all that... but there is SO much more to this album than that song! Here's my song-by-song review.

1. Blue Orchid-This is a fun album opener. It's more popish than many of their songs, so that might turn some people on, and others off.
2. The Nurse- This song starts off with a sort of Caribbean sound... again; might apeal to some and might irritate others. It's about trust and it has a good message.
3. My Doorbell- this one will NOT get out of your head! The tune is catchy, and the lyrics are easy to remember. (I've been thinkin' 'bout mah doorbell, when ya gonna ring it? when ya gonna ring it?) Ahem, sorry. It's IN MY HEAD!!!
4. Forever For Her (Is Over For Me)- I like the lyrics of this better than the tune. It's not my favorite, but I still like it!
5. Little Ghost-Has anyone else noticed that EVERY White Stripes album has a song starting with the word "Little?" There's Little People, Little Bird, Little Room, Little Acorns, and now... Little Ghost! But still, I like this.
6. The Denial Twist- This is my new favorite white stripes song. Coming from ME, who was never able to pick ONE song before. Well, it's possible. I love this!! It's fast-paced, a bit danceable, and the lyrics are so true it's to die for.
7. White Moon- This is, prehaps, one of my least favorite on this album. But hey, it's not my least favorite TWS song EVER, so that's good!
8. Instinct Blues-Not my favorite. It's sort of slow...
9. Passive Manipulation- Very short. It repeats the same verse three times. AGAIN with 3! (sorry.) Meg sings it, though, so I like it.
10. Take, Take, Take- I LOVE this! It's so much fun... it'll make you laugh! It's witty lyrics are similar to "Finding it Harder to be a Gentleman." It's a narritive song like that; it tells a story.
11. As Ugly As I Seem- This is pretty simple... the lyrics are good. I guess I should just say that every lyric Jack White ever WROTE was good.
12. Red Rain-Nice guitar playing on this one. I like it!
13. I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)-More soft, just the piano on this one. I enjoy singing along...

Over all, this is totally worth buying. It's my new favorite WS album. I have all of them, and I didn't become a fan when they released Seven Nation Army (I actually don't really like that song). My favorite album, until this one, was De Stijil, so you can tell that I like their older stuff. Stop reading my blabber and go buy it!
