Free Music Notes for Icky ThumpFree Music Review: I tip my reason Hit: 5 Starsinto genius kid does humble mastery with rock music and interpretations of Life in the Beginning of 21rst Century Ending of Comsumerism but not Stupidity which seems can not Be Helped ...
Free Music Review: Jack enters his Ziggy Stardust phase Hit: 3 StarsThis White Stripes album is quite different from their earlier work. Listening to this album is almost like getting into a time-machine and going back to the days of glam rock, it is quite trippy. I admit that this album is quite hypnotic after a few listenings. It is also quite self-indulgent. It is almost Jack White saying "I am Jack White and I can do anything." And make no mistake, there is a broad range of sound at work here.
Free Music Review: reluctantly rounding 2.5 up to 3 Hit: 3 StarsThe White Stripes have disappointed me with every album after "White Blood Cells," but they usually seem to redeem the crap with a few damn good songs... so I keep giving them a chance, hoping they'll find brilliance, `cause it'd be so great if they did. I'm often irresistibly drawn to the simplicity of their music, so I can appreciate what they're doing on some levels... but I'm beginning to think that they'll never have much to offer in an album except a bunch of ho-hum, derivative filler laced with a few pieces of dung and a few glimpses of simplistic brilliance worthy of finding itself on a playlist or mix cd, but not good enough to warrant listening to the album all the way through. Kinda bothers me to have to pick and choose which songs to listen to on an LP... it disappoints me more than an album of total crap in a way. I'd rather see an artist always striving to meet his potential, even if that potential is less than stellar.
Anything specific I could say about the album has already been said by someone else, so I'll just leave it at that, since my history of perpetual difficulty in liking this band pretty accurately wraps up how I feel about "Icky Thump." Just bad enough to frustrate me, but good enough for me to give them yet another chance...
Free Music Review: Ickythumping Hit: 5 StarsI was turned on to the White Stripes when my local rock station played some of their songs - so I got Icky Thump and Get Behind Me Satan to try them out. Icky Thump is... primitive... but in a good way. The title track is raucous and not at all pop, yet You Don't Know What Love Is is great hard pop music. I'm also falling in love with Little Cream Soda, though I expect it's not for everyone. If you like GBMS, I think you'll like Icky Thump. I'll be picking up the rest of their albums soon, and I hope they're as good.
Free Music Review: Icky Thump Hit: 4 StarsI had to warm up to this a bit but now I think its really good. I actually think its one of their best.
