Free Music Notes for Icky ThumpFree Music Review: Change of Sound...Not a Bad Thing Hit: 5 StarsThis album is just wild, and every track is a goldmine. A collage of Celtic and Blues sounding tunes, Icky Thump will live up to its fans' expectations, and reach out to new ones such as myself. My best friend loves The White Stripes, I never took the time to get into them myself until I was at a party and a few of the songs popped up on the playlist. I immediately got the album and since then I have been digging in the group's past for other albums.
Free Music Review: Icky = Awesome Hit: 5 StarsIcky Thump is everything I was hoping for from the wacky White Stripes siblings. Their raw, eccentric rock/blues/folk/indie sound has stayed intact, and is sure to satisfy any fan of the band. If you're thinking about picking it up, purchase with confidence!
Free Music Review: A solid album - ignore the critics Hit: 5 StarsI have been enjoying this album since I bought it shortly after it's release. I bought the album on a whim, mostly because I could not get Icky Thump out of my head.
If you aren't hung up with "selling out" and Indie cred, buy this album. This is a blues-inspired, hard-rocking album that surpasses "Get Behind Me Satan." Jack White shows his playful side with great songs like "Rag and Bone" and "Effect and Cause." And he shows off some excellent guitar shredding on "Little Cream Soda." Above all, I could listen to the title track "Icky Thump" over and over again, which is the mark of good music in my book.
"Get Behind Me Satan" was a huge album for the Stripes, but "Icky Thump" shows that when Jack White steps away from the piano and picks up a guitar, he makes even better music.
Free Music Review: The Stripes save a perhaps a dying breed of music...... Hit: 4 StarsThe White Stripes might wind up on pop radio and have their share of hit singles, but in a way they really defy the direction that pop rock has gone in the past few years. Rock music has become dangerously stale, with very few artist that can say that they sound unique or different from other bands. Take Nickelback for example. There are at least four other bands that sound exactly like them, both vocal and song stucture with the likes of Hinder, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Seether and once again this is a small sample. Even though I will admit the Stripes use simple chords and have limited amount of change from song to song, they do bring a certain flavor to their music. For the most part they are a bluesy retro rock band with small flavors of punk, but Jack and Meg bring something more to table with "Icky Thump". "Icky Thump" has less pop and technical aspects then the subpar "Get Behind me Satan" and goes back to a more in your face rawness of garage rock. They album also has a strong mexican musical flavor to it, which Jack and Meg intelligently infuse in their music. "Icky Thump" isnt perfect, as there are some tracks that are pretty close to horrid, but for the most part, the Stripes pull off another great effort, without sounding stale and like everyone else in the pop/rock/punk world.
Free Music Review: Amazing! Hit: 5 StarsThis is my first White Stripes Album....I love it! It was recommended to me by a friend, and I was definitely not let down. They are one of my new favorite bands now.
