Free Music Notes for Icky ThumpFree Music Review: A solid album - ignore the critics Hit: 5 Stars
I have been enjoying this album since I bought it shortly after it's release. I bought the album on a whim, mostly because I could not get Icky Thump out of my head.
If you aren't hung up with "selling out" and Indie cred, buy this album. This is a blues-inspired, hard-rocking album that surpasses "Get Behind Me Satan." Jack White shows his playful side with great songs like "Rag and Bone" and "Effect and Cause." And he shows off some excellent guitar shredding on "Little Cream Soda." Above all, I could listen to the title track "Icky Thump" over and over again, which is the mark of good music in my book.
"Get Behind Me Satan" was a huge album for the Stripes, but "Icky Thump" shows that when Jack White steps away from the piano and picks up a guitar, he makes even better music.
Free Music Review: I can't believe it's taken me this long to discover the White Stripes!! Hit: 5 Stars
What the hey...great title! Great album. From mariachi horns (Conquest) to bagpipes (Prickly Thorn to Sweetly Worn and St Andrew This Battle Is In the Air)! From the grunge of Rag and Bone to the southern blues of Effect and Cause! There is no genre for this! I hear Led Zepplin, The Black Crowes, Bob Dylan, the lyrical genius of Warren Zevon, and a Nashville influence rolled into one musical masterpiece. Whoever thought someone singing sooo off key would sound so...so refreashing (Conquest)! Thank you, White Stripes for doing what you do. It's good to know there is still creativity alive and well out there! This is what rock's all about. Now I must go out and buy five other albums! (I can't help it, this shows my age...cd's and downloads will always be albums to me!)
Free Music Review: Not so ICKY Thump Hit: 5 Stars
At first, I was angry at The White Stripes. I was boycotting them due to their cancelling of an appearance in August at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. So... I was hesitant to support them through buying their new album. In fact, I had staged a boycott... in my head at least. I have to say that I don't regret biting the bullet. This CD is my new favorite CD. I can't get enough of it! There is such an array of genres carefully intermingled so as to delight each and every sense. If you were, are or plan to be a White Stripes fan at any point, then this album is a must-have. There is one song where Jack and Meg are talking. If you can get over Meg's whiny, cutesy voice, then you will be addicted to this compilation. RAWK!
Free Music Review: This isn't your parent's music Hit: 5 Stars
Well, i'm a bit embarrassed to have just heard of this band less than 3 weeks ago. I feel like i've missed a lot, must have been hiding under a rock. I love this band! I bought this CD right away after hearing "Little Cream Soda". I was shocked to find out this CD came out 2 years ago, i'm a bit taken aback, the music is familiar, but different. They definitely have classic music, garage, metal, & folk all wrapped into one great package. Being born in the late 70's, I don't recall jamming out to 70's music, but it kinda reminds me of the old style rock n' roll, but this certainly isn't your parent's music! I also have heard GBMS & Elephant as well, also just as brilliant! What can I say? I'm hooked!!
Free Music Review: White Stripes Best Album In Years - Rock N Roll Is Back For Jack Hit: 5 Stars
This album is worth the $9.99 price if only for songs 9-12. ("Rag and Bones", "I'm Slowly Turning Into You", "Martyr For My Love For You" and finally "Catch Hell Blues" are the aforementioned songs 9-12). "Catch Hell Blues" quickly became my favorite Stripes song ever and will really remind of you the older White Stripes album "De Stijl". But don't let my love of this 4 song block distract you from the rest of the album. The only "weak" part in my opinion are songs 3, 6, and 7. The bagpipe sounds like a good idea but I personaly hate those 2 songs.
If you are Stripes fan and love their older work you will love this album.
