Free Music Notes for Icky ThumpFree Music Review: this is a great album Hit: 5 Starsthe last album was just okay. this one is wonderful. they jump between genres and create tight, fun, great tunes. this is one of the few albums in existence that i can listen to all the way through, repeatedly, and get down with every single song.
good stuff.
Free Music Review: They Rock and They Know it! Hit: 4 StarsThe White Stripes Rock and they know it. They also don't care what you or I or anyone else thinks. This is what makes them so cool. Jack and Meg are free of all of the pretentions that make most artisits so impressed with themselves. The Stripes simply make the musc that they, themselves want to hear, and invite you over to hang out, have a few beers and experience the vibe. Icky Thump, the title track is a perfect example of what freedom from judgement can provide - its rockin', trippy, and full of primitive attitude. The slight artsy pretense that encumbered Get Behind Me Satan is nowhere to be found on outstanding tracks like Rag and Bone and Catch Hell Blues. Now, Jack and Meg are just simply cooler than the rest of the modern rock bands. and they know it. and that's damn cool in and of itself.
Free Music Review: Icky Thump Hit: 5 StarsWhy, oh why, do I have to wait to see you in concert? I have Icky Thump as my ringtone and when I was in Mexico this year and got a call, it made me all warm and fuzzy inside (or maybe that was the tequila).
White Stripes. Jack White. Amazing.
Free Music Review: White Stripes regain their edge with Icky Thump Hit: 5 StarsThe White Stripes are back! With their latest effort, Icky Thump, Jack and Meg White have returned with the harder edged, garage band sound, to which their fans had grown delightfully accustomed. Some were disappointed with 2005's Get Behind Me Satan and its largely mellow, keyboard heavy offerings, although not a bad disc by any means. But the catchy titled Icky Thump erases any fears that the twosome were slipping into some sort of seasoned lethargy. From sweetly melodic to loud and wonderfully grating, Icky Thump leaves the listener joyfully off balance and highly entertained throughout. Hey...you either get this act or you don't! The disc begins with the creatively rapping title track and then quickly segues into arguably one of their best tunes ever, the lively "You Don't Know What Love Is", followed by another of the stronger cuts, "300 M.P. H. Torrential Outpour Blues". There's a bit of a speed bump in the only Jack White non-original, "Conquest", but we're quickly back to White Stripes' reality with the hard pounding "Bone Broke". "Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn" and its companion track, "St. Andrew(This Battle is in The Air)" feature a refreshing infusion of bagpipes, adding nicely to the Stripes' trademark unpredictablilty. Jack gets conversational in the decent "Little Cream Soda" and is then playfully joined by Meg in "Rag and Bone". Next up is the strangely likeable, almost otherworldly "I'm Slowly Turning Into You", then another of the better selections, "A Martyr For My Love For You". Jack's guitar dances wildly through "Catch Hell Blues" and finally, you can just visualize Mr. White sitting contently in the corner of some modest, dimly lit venue, happily strumming away on "Effect And Cause". All in all, a fantastic outing by the White Stripes, leaving us to ponder what this talented duo has in store the next time around!
Free Music Review: Another fantastic album from a fantastic band Hit: 5 StarsThe White Stripes continue to produce quality music. So many good tracks on this album. Great variety, unlike many bands today whose tracks all sound the same. Great entertainment value with Jack's quirky sounds and lyrics.
