Free Music Notes for White Blood CellsFree Music Review: *Clone? I don't think so!* Recovered Revieew From 2003. Hit: 4 Stars
Once I saw MAD magazine referring to The Strokes, The Vines, The White Stripes and The Hives as :The Attack of The Clones: I had to voice my own opinion where it can be heard. The White Stripes are in a category all their own. A true fan of rock music can appreciate this group. They may not be as talented as some acts on the scene, but then again most rock fans adore The Ramones. Listening to "White Blood Cells" is listening to a tribute to the lost sound of early '60's punk. From "Fell In Love With A Girl" (The Kinks) to "I Think I Smell A Rat" (The Who). The duo even shows its softer side with "We're Going To Be Friends" which sounds an awful lot like Paul McCartney's "Black Bird". Whether paying homage to the '60's or flat out originals like "Little Room" I would not be ashamed to call this album one of the best of 2002. As for the talk of clones, The White Stripes have already released two previous records while the other bands are just getting started. So with that I ask...who is copying whom?
Again, notice that this is a lost review of mine from a previous username. This review was written in March of 2003, look at how far The White Stripes have come since this breakthrough release? Hmm...I guess I know my bands after all! ;-)
Free Music Review: Jack White keeping rock and roll alive and whole... Hit: 4 Stars
A little late to the party with purchasing this album which in some minds may be their best work. Huge fan of Jack White, truly a remarkable musician constantly evolving with creativity and staying true to his rock-n-roll roots while incorporating funky and innovative sounds. Part Jimmy Page, part The Pixies, but the band is unique and somehow sound like a 5 piece band with only Meg and Jack. White seems humble and smart, very carefully choosing his words. Bottom line: The band is very cool, this album is really good, but must say my album of choice if I was on that desert album would be their first self titled album- raw and hard with good lyrics. Elephant a not to distant second. Keep making music, Jack White. Keep Rock-n-Roll alive!
Free Music Review: Another Good Album CD by the White Stripes, This one contains some real "gems" in it also!!!! Hit: 4 Stars
Overall, its a very good cd. It contains 16 songs. I don't think its quite as good as "Elephant" or "Icky Thump", but it is very good. Some of the songs I really enjoyed include: "Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground", "Hotel Yorba", "I'm finding it Harder to be a Gentleman (everyday)", and "Fell in Love With a Girl". Thanks!!!!
Free Music Review: White stripes good crazy Hit: 4 Stars
I think Jack White is a young, arrogant genius who does art, not just rock. Kind of like Jim Morrison in those respects, I hope he does not drink like Jim. Also much more ironical. Great talent. Meg White is very proficient and my God, she's beautiful. Typical chauvinist, sorry.
Free Music Review: Hipster americana Hit: 3 Stars
3 1/2
A sturdy if trailed off attack of scuzzy melody thrives off the less-is-more approach, guided by White's superb ear for productive rawness, capable of elevating even his simplest of songwriting exercises into genuinely effective indie-blues-rock excursions.
