I bought the original TOMMY in 1969. It was miles ahead of previous WHO recordings in sound quality alone. The recent MCA re-release captures all the sound not audible on the old LP format. TOMMY is really the WHO's greatest achievement, even though late-comers have a deeper affection for WHO'S NEXT or QUADREPHENIA.
