Athens Georgia continues to produce amazing musical talent and The Winter Sounds are no exception. "Sound Forged Like Spine" was posted on a friends MySpace profile and immediately captivated me. The Winter Sounds have an indie rock sensibility that does not descend into trite cacophony. Lyrically illustrative, the harmonies they create on tracks like "Sound Forged Like Spine" and "Minnesota" float in and take you to a wonderfully nostalgic place. On drivers like "The Great Forgotten" they soar. In the weeks since I got this album I have, on numerous occasions, found myself humming a song and discovered that it was on this album. All-in-all, a standout album that I highly recommend.
