Free Music Review: Awesome! My 2 year old LOVES this!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the follow up to Here Comes the ABCs (also worth getting). I really dislike most kids music, it's like finger nails on chalk boards, but this is stuff that parents can sing along with. It hard to come up with another band that would be better at kids music. And the DVD is totally different and can keep kids attention. This is, for sure, the bee's knees!!

Free Music Review: The kids love this
Hit: 5 Stars

We owned the Here Come the ABCs by They Might be Giants prior to buying the 123s CD/DVD. Even with that, I admit that I was a bit dubious about whether the kids would like this or not. I mean, how entertaining can you make songs about numbers? Well, I was stunned at how much the kids liked this. It comes with a DVD and a CD and my two boys (ages 2 and 4) absolutely love it. In fact, the songs are catchy enough that I find myself humming them from time to time. It's nice to find something that's both entertaining and educational for the kids. Too rare these days.

Free Music Review: Nice tunes for youngsters and parents
Hit: 4 Stars

I really can't stand most music geared specifically toward children, but I do know They Might Be Giants from my childless days, so I was only a bit surprised when I found myself asking my son if he wanted to listen to Here come the 123s again. There are a few songs, I could do without (but aren't there on any album?), but mostly it's just good, fun music--no matter who the lyrics are directed at. I love to sing along with Zeros, I'm Number Two, Apartment 4, Sevens, and just about all the others, much to my 4-year-old's chagrin (he says I'm ruining the songs). He loves all the songs except the Disney ones (2 of them), which seem out of place. Overall, it's a good album to have around--one that won't drive you crazy the 54th time you have to listen to it.

Free Music Review: They Might Be Triumphant
Hit: 5 Stars

I pre-ordered this after seeing the 7 Days music video on the TMBG podcast, and we spent the whole weekend bopping around and singing the song.

We've since gotten the CD/DVD and the DVD rarely leaves our DVD player and the CD's songs have been about the most-played songs on my iPod ever since.

These songs are clever and bouncy, and encompass a wider range of styles than TMBG used to -- High Five, One Dozen Monkeys and several other songs almost seem to be dropped in from some other (also excellent) CD. While the songs clearly have an educational value, they're still dense in the way TMBG songs often are (the very precise definition of zero, for instance, is the kind of thing that shows up in many of their songs).

There's also a great sense of play, whether it's a bunch of number 7s invading a house looking for birthday cake or a girl going bicycle riding with a monkey.

The DVD makes me long for the days when Sesame Street wasn't quite so earnest. TMBG's videos -- which surprisingly encompass a wide range of styles, instead of merely doing the same technique over and over -- are engaging and fun, and have a sort of manic feel to them that Sesame Street has really gotten away from, much to that show's detriment.

And while he hasn't yet had a wide range of musical experiments, this CD and DVD are my 10 month old son's favorite. When he's in a crabby mood, just hearing these songs played -- or watching them, silently, on my iPod -- can turn that around instantly. He's not yet able to discuss integers or even numbers, but the yarn TMBG puppets and the cutout children refusing to go to work makes his face light up every time.

This package was so solid, we're going to be picking up Here Come the ABCs next.

Free Music Review: A great CD!

This is one of my favorite kids' CD's. It is one even I enjoy in the car. The kids especially like the "7" song. Who wouldn't have fun chanting "we want cake, where's our cake??" If you're looking for something to play in the car that kids and adults will like, this is it.
