Free Music Notes for Here Come the ABCs [CD/DVD Combo]Free Music Review: F is for Fun! Go, go, go for G! Hit: 5 Stars
We bought our boys this CD/DVD combo not long after it first came out. Well, our oldest was three at the time and he didn't really get into it--I'm not sure why, but maybe it was because Mom and Dad were so excited about it. But we recently dusted it off and tossed it into the DVD player and now both boys, ages 3 and 5, are completely hooked.
Not only are the tunes catchy, they're clever in a way that both kids and parents can appreciate. Anyone who has ever listened to TMBG before knows how their lyrics and music can be quirky and fun; as a long-time fan myself, I think this is probably their best album. The schtick works better here than ever before.
The DVD is wonderful, too. The videos feature animation, puppets, and even a 'live' performance. Everything is colorful, lively, and well-done. The videos manage to be fun and funky without being too abstract or condescending--TMBG don't take themselves too seriously (when have they ever?) but they take their young audience very seriously. And Mom and Dad won't mind watching it the 2 or 3 or dozen times in a row the kids will demand it!
I C U N U R O K!
Free Music Review: I always ome back to the Giants Hit: 5 Stars
My first introduction to They Might BE Giants was when their videos for Istanbul and Particle Man first aired on Tiny Toon Adventures. I've been listening to their music since. I studied music for a long time and studied many different kinds of music and taken an interest in many artists, but for some reason They Might Be Giants winds up being at the top of my listening list again, over and over. I recently purchased both the ABC's and 123's and watch the cintained dvd with my 1-year-old daughter. These two dvds are the only content we really ever let her watch, and they are the only videos that have ever kept her attention long enough - she listens and watches avidly, dances, claps. I love and sing along to all the songs and sit with her through each viewing of the videos; it's an activity that we both enjoy very much, and she seems genuinely interested in the content of the songs.
So a big thanks to John and John for these 2 cd/dvd combos, and thanks to Amazon for selling them, and a big recommendation for any fellow Giants fans with little Giants fans on board.
Free Music Review: If you love your kid, then buy this CD/DVD !!!! Hit: 5 Stars
They Might Be Giants are hands down the greatest children's band in the world. I was a fan in the early 90's when their only focus was on alternative rock. Many of my friends that were fans started having kids and their children really enjoyed the infectious rhythms and melodies of They Might Be Giants songs. Wouldn't you know that Disney Sound picks them up and viola! out comes some of the best educational rock music you've ever heard.
You toddler or young child will love this CD and the DVD with all the videos for the songs on the album (and this is done by Disney...so you know it's fantastic!). Most of all YOU WILL LOVE this album. Forget about listening to Barney or the DoodleBops...this is REAL music that you and your kid can enjoy together.
My 2 year old son LOVES to watch the videos and groove along in the back seat of the car. Both Hear Come the 1,2,3's and ABC's are FANTASTIC...five stars to both. This will be the best $12 you ever spent for your kid!
Free Music Review: Excellent!! Hit: 5 Stars
As a long-time fan of TMBG, I often played some of their music to my 16 month-old son. I got the DVD a couple of months ago and my son absolutely loves it - in fact he clamours for it (by waving the DVD remote control in my face urgently).
I think it's TMBG's best work in a long time (and that's saying a lot). All the songs have very catchy tunes and are highly amusing: they'll have you humming after the first viewing. The visuals are also very well produced and kid-friendly.
The musical styles are quite varied - from jangly upbeat kid stuff ("Go For G", "Fake Believe"), to ballads ("D and W", "Can You Find It?"), to rock 'n roll ("Who Put the Alphabet..."), to country-western ("I C U"), to psychedelic ("Pictures of Pandas Painting"), to electronica/dance ("Alphabet Lost and Found").
Every song is guaranteed to stick in your head for weeks to come.
Get this DVD/CD: I highly recommend it for both the kids and the adults in the family.
Free Music Review: "A" for Awesome! Hit: 5 Stars
I cannot tell you enough how great this cd/dvd combo is. I've been a fan of TMBG's adult fare for some time now (think "Birdhouse in Your Soul", etc.) and upon finding out they did kids music, just had to have try it out. I'm not sure about you, but I zone out completely whenever I hear most toddler music, but this is different - the songs are catchy, the concepts are great, and let's just say that my 3 year-old requests this on car rides by name and now knows what a "gyroscope" is.
For those complaining about the lack of sequential A-Z learning, I ask them to listen and look again. "Alphabet of Nations" does countries sequentially, so does "Who Put the Alphabet in Alphabetical Order?" as well "E eats Everything". And let's not forget the Robot/Girl segment. Like I mentioned earlier, it's a concept album and if you have a toddler walking around knowing what a vowel is or that Q&U are linked together in words after a few listens, I'd say they've learned a great deal.
